And why bother dating someone if you don't like their temper? Personally, I wouldn't bother dating a man who didn't also have some serious spark.

Oh God yes. There's a large difference between a spark and some fire and an abusive person, though. I myself would never hurt a fly no matter how fiery I may appear.
