Default Is this just insensitive?

I have a friend who's sister was meant to get married a couple of weeks ago but they canceled the wedding about a month before.

On the day the wedding should have been, my friend got engaged.

Is it just me or is getting engaged on the day of your sister's canceled wedding and incredibly insensitive thing to do?

That is nasty. Its kinda like a slap in the face. Or a contest, like "at least my partner will marry me".

But I guess I'm sure there were circumstances behind the lot of it, so maybe there was no malice intended. Although I think your friend might want to work on her diplomacy skills if she's gonna do such things.

Well, did she plan it that way with her fiancee? Otherwise it's just coincidence and if anyone's bothered by it they can give me fifty-thousand dollars.

Coincidentally the fiancee planned a weekend away and surprised her with an engagement on the weekend her sister would have been getting married. I don't think so Tim.

Hmmmm......... The fiancee is evil. This sounds like a nasty manipulative thing to do. I'd be questioning why anyone would plan such a thing. Sounds like the fiancee is trying to start a fight between the sisters by this.

Yes the fiancee is evil, nasty and manipulative. I'm not a fan.

I can see why if she pulls stunts like this.

Yep, pretty much evil-doing on the part of the fiancé. Not so much on your friend. Your friend could have asked her fiancé to not announce this a month or so later.

Maybe your friend's sister is an utter b*tch (hence the wedding break up?) and deserved the nose rubbing.

Friend's sister called off the wedding. They are still together, she just got cold feet.

She wasn't too nice to her prospective husband. But it's just a theory.

^ Wouldn't it have been worse to go through with it when her heart wasn't fully in it? This way if they do end up getting married at least he'll know for sure that its the right thing.

That was my thought. I thought it was a very brave decision to call it off and have to face everyone. Of course Spoony would refer to it as running away, but Spoony is going to be eaten by a saber tooth tiger so his judgment is somewhat flawed.

Agreed and the best decision if she had doubts but better if she'd thought about a marriage and not a wedding, in the first place. (See the difference?)

Which may the reason there's so many divorces. Lots of wedding plans, the big party, no real thought of what it means.

Yep.

Obviously I don't know your friend's sister is a b*tch but we don't always know the whole picture in close relationships, it's easy to assume we do.

But I do know my friends fiance is manipulative so I can't help but think there was something more than coincidence.
