PSA about Driving while Texting

It's a PSA (Public Service Announcement) they made in the UK about the dangers of Driving while Texting.

They sure went all-out. There's no announcer in the background telling you "see, this is what might happen" and they don't stop at the crash. It keeps going a little beyond that, showing that if it were to happen, people can really get hurt.

Brilliantly made. Though I'm rather critical about these types of vids if they actually get though to kids. I know when I was growing up, all those PSA's were patronizing and we brushed it off like "pfft.. you think I'm stupid enough to drink and drive?" But then again, some were. Kids think they're immortal or unbreakable or something. It's not until it really happens to them when they get serious about things, and by that time it's probably already too late and they already killed someone by their stupidity or their life has gone down deep in the shitter and there's no coming back.

Yes that's true, it always has been and I really don't know what you can do to warn kids when they're sure, "it will never happen to me".

It's not only the kids. About a year ago, a truck driver plowed full speed into a line of cars backed up at a highway exit. Three people in two cars were killed outright with another dozen or so severely injured. Guess what he was doing right before the crash. Only a few months ago a policeman responding to the scene of another accident, hit a car killing two teenage girls. Just prior to the accident he, not the girls, had made a cell phone call and was texting a fellow officer. One of our state representatives tried to get a bill passed banning all cell phone use while driving. Guess what - it didn't even get out of committee. The right to use cell phones is like the right to bear arms in this country.

Great reality thread Firebird!
IMO, they should tow some of these wrecked cars, to schools & leave them there, it would give a clearer view of what happens in the real world...

They made it a law in California illegal to use mobile phones while driving, yet every day I see cars weaving some side to side coming out of their lanes because they're texting. And sometimes they're not kids at all, but guys in business suits who you would think are smarter than that, checking emails on their Blackberry.

A month ago I drove to San Francisco with a colleague and he owns an iPhone, and we were on the freeway and suddenly he picks it up and starts checking his Facebook. I looked at him and said "are you mad? You're f***ing driving, put that down!" He says he does it all the time, I said "I don't care!" and took it away from him. Thankfully, he was reasonable enough to surrender his iPhone to me whenever it was his turn to drive.

Who's to blame for this, if there's anyone to blame? Parents? Media? Ourselves? Bush Jr.?

Surely not everyone's doing it, so you can't blame society as a whole.

The individual is to blame and needs to take responsibility for their own actions.
It's illegal to use a phone while driving here too but still idiots do it.

People unconsciously desire the crash, especially if they're welsh .
People don't car-text to communicate.
Texting is merely an excuse to take your eyes
off the road (texting secret death-wishes past the censor).

The full moon generates no light of her own.
Similarly cars are not glamorous (this is why the presenters of bbc top gear look like paedophiles). Driving only seems to be glamorous, as the moon palely mirrors the sun.
The glamour of driving is a pale reflection of the crash: the grace kelly collision-trauma, princess diana velocity homicide, james dean, acceleration splatter ect
