A Wildlife Problem

It seems that a juvenile red-headed woodpecker has decided that he likes to sip nectar from the hummingbird feeder better than seeking insect larva. See the photos below. Any polite way of discouraging this rude behavior (the hummingbird has already dive bomb him several times without effect).

Actually, I have more feeders on order.
I was thinking that this woodpecker is an orphan and his parents didn't teach him to seek larva.

No you don't. Normally they just peck a little bit on a tree trunk looking for larva under the bark but during mating season the males try to impress the females by making as much noise as they can. A favorite spot is aluminum gutters which can drive the homeowner nuts.

My hummingbirds are very picky. They will only dine at 4-star or higher eating establishments.

I have to get some. I was soooo excited that i finally saw a humming bird but it was a humming bird moth.
Fix do you buy or make your nector?

A quarter cup of sucrose (table sugar) in one cup of water. Bring to a rapid boil. Cool and serve. You need to replace it every 5-7 days. It may take a while for the birds to find your feeder but once established they will return year after year.

Kill it, put it on the side of the road, observe the roadkill eaters... That is the most well spent time and a very good experience. My high school English teacher ate roadkill.
