Shitty Boss

Im sure everyone has had them. 2 weeks ago at work we got a new office manager (a guy who actually bought into the company but took over just about every job there was). A big pompous guy, kind of obnoxious and very bossy. He was one of those cost cutting guys, no more soap in the bathroom, air conditioning at like 80 degrees, the water cooler in the front stopped getting refill deliveries.

I worked with a marketing team, 4 people, and one of the team members had it out with this new boss (on Friday) over him asking us (employees) to pay for a bounced check and the fee. This check wasnt from us or to us, we never touched the check, it was just from an acquaintance (someone we had work dealings with) to the company.

We said no, got into an argument, and he fired us all.

Good for you, thats crazy, you should never have to pay for a bounced check that was not your fault. I have never respected managers that come in hard that way, treating people poorly will never get you good results from a staff. I'm actually glad it happened so now you can move on. You a smart and talented guy, you should be able to find another job easily.

What the heck?! I can't believe that last line; "and he fired us all.". That's outrageous and I hope you and your colleagues end up working somewhere you are respected.
Op's right, treating your staff like that is no way to run a business; I hope he finds out the hard way what a big idiot he's been.
Do you have any idea what you're going to do next?

..oh, and by the way I believe karma gets people like this eventually. When I managed a coffee shop back in New Orleans (it was a local chain called CC's, similar to Starbucks), there was alot of turner in upper management and we got this AZZHOLE regional manager who treated everyone poorly, and expected me to deal with my staff in a way I thought was wrong. I ended up leaving the job as did many good employees and managers under his reign.

Months later he was busted having an extra-marital affair with some married chick in the marketing department. They were spotted parked in company vehicle making out during a Mardi Gras parade. Further inquiries revealed that they have been using the company's apartment for their rondevue's. Both were fired and rumour has it his wife took him for all he was worth in the divorce.

I see my last boss is now working in Florida..LOL..He left here in Feb 07 and it's been a pleasure to come to work every day since.

Sorry to hear that you are between jobs in these tough economic times, Rory, but it sounds like it may be for the best. Want to get even? Go work for the competition and lure away some of your former firms clients.
I have never worked in a job where the boss was an a$$hole and I at least tolerated my fellow employees and treated those under me in a fair manner. Good luck in your job hunting.

Sorry to hear about the job, Open. Its not a good way to run a business.

At an old factory i worked at they put little cameras in the door frames of the canteen to stop people going to lunch a couple of minutes early.

I'd put money on the fact that you're the dude who offers to buy the receptionist coffee when you're going down to get one yourself because you know the poor bltch is stuck at the desk. Incidentally people, that is the greatest sign of good character in the office. It says as much as the person who actually smiles at the cleaner and has a chat with the foreign lunch lady.

Can you actually fire a person just like that? Unless you were a "temporary"(less than three months) it would seem your boss would need more to justify firing you.

Thats really horrible. Im sorry.

No soap it the bathroom is bad enuff. I would have ripped off all the toilet paper b4 I walked out. This way he could wipe his azz with that overdraft notice from the bank.
