N.J. man blows up apartment spraying for bugs

NEW YORK - A New Jersey man trying to exterminate insects in his apartment blew it up instead, the New York Daily News reported on Monday.
Isias Vidal Maceda was unhurt in the incident, but 80 percent of his apartment was destroyed, Eatontown, New Jersey police told the newspaper.
The accident occurred as Maceda was spraying for pests in his kitchen. Somehow the bug spray ignited a blast that blew out the apartment's front windows and triggered a fire that quickly spread, the newspaper said.
Police told the newspaper that the Saturday blaze also caused smoke damage to the apartment above.

Yeah but he got rid of the bugs. (Substitute bugs for Saddam and apartment for Iraq and you have American foreign policy).

Actually spraying for bugs was what he told the cops when they showed up; he was really cooking up a batch of meth.

Miss Flute knows better - you always blow out the pilot light on the stove before spraying for bugs.

I thought it was funny what you said anyway Miss Flute. But what insects where they Bill? If they were roaches, I'd reckon they'd have survived. As they survive most things. Except being troden on.

Actually this subject was on mythbuster and it was proven that bug spray cannot blow up a house. So I agree with Fix.

Dont worry Fix I dont need spray. My thumb is all I need. I forgot to tell you the gnats have gone , Now I have little tiny hard shell bugs, Not a lot but they are also attracted to my comp screen.

Actually, those bug bombs could cause an explosion if enough of them were set off in a confined space where a source of ignition like a pilot light was present. See bug bomb.

I wish I could that epi of Mythbuster where they disprove. I know you could read about it , But i saw that it couldnt happen

They also did a show where they wanted to disprove that a guy smoking a cig. sitting on a toilet , blew up from his own gas and lit cig.
