I'm shocked to hear this about Mexico! My parents own a time share there and when they crossed the border into Mexico they were stopped alot by the Mexican feds! They tried to rob my mom of $5,000 usa dollars, saying it was illegal to carry that much cash! Well, my mom was born in Mexico and for some reason they are not nice to Americans or Mexicans. My mom threw the money in their face and cussed them out in Spanish.

That's the difference that British passport makes.

I remember as a kid we drove across Europe to Yugoslavia (yes, the old Communist state) and I don't think we ever had to get out of the Range Rover. Very civilised.

When you walk over the crossing bridge at tj you don’t even show a passport. You go past a policeman who doesn’t check or even notice you. If you drive a car then you have to wave passport. But it’s nothing more than that. The problem is when you actually get into mex. Apparently the police hardly get paid so they’re always trying to hustle people to supplement their income. Most of their money comes from hustling tourists & drug dealers. It’s normal (the police even used to be like that in italy until the 1970s). If you have california license plates, they’ll simply assume you have lots of money and hustle you. Maybe your dad should make your car look a bit more shabby! Scratch some paint off and put big dents in it. I don’t know mex very well, i’ve only travelled in baja california. We just took the local buses down the coast, all the way along to san quintin. They play mexican music in the buses and it’s nice you never see any other tourists inside them. The bus driver is really surprised when you give him american dollars! You can travel miles down the coast for just a few dollars it’s so cheap. I think the trick is just don’t dress or look like an american! and the police will ignore you. If you're a foreigner, entering america again is the only scary part! Since september 11 almost everytime i go to america they frisk me. Free massage! I do look slightly arabic.

lol british passports look beautiful and it means that the queen promises to always protect us! But really the british embassies are the nicest in the world when you get in trouble. My mum lost her handbag in istanbul once and we found out they let you do unlimited free phone calls from the embassy! so after she cancelled her cards, she just decided to call all her friends as well since it was free. That's your tax money well spent.

^ I agree with you in your points, but sad thing is my mom is 100% Mexican! She was born in Acapulco and we never drive to TJ since our relatives live too far from TJ. We always fly over and @ the airport the incident of the money happened @ there customs counter. My mom is planning on getting an ID card from Mexico, that proves she is still a citizen there. She has dual citizenship in USA and Mexico. Also, your right about blending in my dad who is from Belgium always gets hassled by them also! I never have been hassled because I look mexican from my mom's side of the family and I speak Spanish.

You got no argument here. They're our 2nd largest city..AND WHY? So, if you want to meet nicer people, you have to travel farther east
