Default Alpha Males

I have never seen a pack of alpha males vying for the position of top dog until I started my new job. There's 5 of them in total and you can almost see them flexing and sticking their chests out when there's a discussion going on. It's very frustrating and tedious to watch from a business perspective but quite interesting and funny from an evolutionary view point.

I thought you were a guy.

Your place of business doesn't sound very professional if they're doing what you say they're doing. Or maybe you're just exaggerating. If you have reservations about men, your view may be skewed and it's just in your head.

lol, I've spent my whole working life surrounded by guys; bosses, colleagues and direct reports, kind of goes with the engineering and manufacturing background, no reservations at all about men. Since other's have said similar to me about the place I don't think there's anything skewed in it at all, I'm just finding it fun to watch now.

Keep on watching Black, I'm halfway through learning about body language & how it is used in todays society. It is really interesting how people act without knowing it.
TIP: If you want people to take you seriously, when shaking hands hold your hand out to initiate contact with your palm facing down, have your hand on top of theirs to show assertiveness& make it a firm one to appear open minded & it makes for a better first impression.

Not to generalize or sound sexist, but...

In my own experiences (yours may differ).....

Male co-workers are more honest and competitive when it comes to working towards a promotion.

Females are more backstabbing, brown-nosing, tattle-tale types that'll start rumors about men to get ahead of them.

I blame genetics. In a world dominated by alpha males, females need to abuse any possible advantage as leverage. It's not fair, but hey... we pee standing up and they have multiple orgasms.

I was told I must conform . So Yes I agree with Capt. Beef. Males are honest and women are not and they back stab.

I've heard that before. The firmness I agree makes a better first impression but I've never paid attention to whether I have my hand on top or the other person does so for me at least I don't think I'd get that body language sign at all.

Now you're just playing to a stereotype. Power driven people come in all genders.

However, I will say that due to our male dominant society and the lingering sexism that many women who strive for "success" feel that they need to do so by proving that they are "strong". Normally this means acting like an moron. Men do this too, but many of them don't feel like they have to prove their strength in such a way, or at least to such great lengths.

We are descendent from hunters whose survival and the survival of the group depended on aggressiveness of the males and to a lesser extent, submissiveness of the females. It is our genetic heritage to pursue prey and kill it. Naturally this aggressiveness varies considerably from male to male as does submissiveness varies from female to female. I believe that this accounts, in large part, for the violence endemic in human society. We can only overcome these aggressive tendencies through the use of our cognitive facilities to counter our instinctual behavior.

GREAT!!!!!! I was relying on the primal instinct thing and have been trying the submissive female thing and they are becoming much more co-operative. They are even trying to teach me to be more assertive, aint that sweet.

Sorry I need to correct myself. Your palm does not face down but rather up or to the side. Sorry I just wanted to add that.

Are you sure? I always thought the palm down, so your hand on top was the assertive body language.
