What is a best friend?

I mean a friend, a boy or a girl, that you can tell him/her your deepest secrets or whatever. Do you trust him or her?
What type of secrets do you tell to your best friend?

Gossip?

Your boyfriend doesn't brush his teeth anymore?

And here in fanhost? Do you have a friend that you can count with him/her to your secrets?

well, a best friends should be always there when you need him or her, when you feel down, so he or she can cheer you up again, who gives you a shoulder to cry on, who´s sharing almost everything with you, who you can tell everything, AND, the most important thing: Who is LISTENING to you, and not just sits there acting like he or she does, but really listens to you!!

And here in fanhost? Do you have a friend that you can count with him/her to your secrets?

Yes I have! And this person fulfills everything I listed up above

All my friends are just people I enjoy spending time and catching up with, finding out what 's going on in their life and just talking about stuff. I'd rather share the good stuff than the bad and my friends are the same. It's not so much about having a shoulder to cry on, I don't really have a need for that or look for that, it's a bit too intense when people share everything and I don't need to know people's secrets. It's more about knowing they would be there but I find it more rewarding to share my good stuff and vice versa.

I guess my "best friend" would be someone I've known since we were kids. Our parents were friends so we met that way, then we ended up in the same Uni course, he lived here for a couple of years, and we've just got closer over that time.

Given that I like the face to face, or at least a voice to go with the person I wouldn't really consider anyone online, here or other places a good friend. Some though I get along well with in the message world so if the opportunity arose I'd like to meet them in person.

well, I phone to this person I met here, and it´s really cool. the positive aspect about thi is the person does not have any prejudices about you, like others often have.

I had a best friend in real life also years ago, but she left, cause she moved to the nearby city,and from there on I never saw her again. Nice huh?

Did you keep in touch with her? If it was a nearby city you could have visited, it kind of goes both ways.

I think the most important thing for me is trust. People have their ups and downs but what keeps the friendship is when the downs are forgotten and the ups are what's remembered and important.

I tried a lot at the beginning, and she promised me to also always come here to go out and stuff, but she never did after that, and I called her all teh time and stuff, and she said, yes, i will come there and things like that, but nothing. And now I don´t even know where she lives. I haven´t seen her for long.

I find the advantage, or at least interesting thing, about online is there's the chance to cross paths with people you otherwise wouldn't, different states or countries. The disadvantage, at least for me, is that a simple conversation can go on for days with the time zones.

I do keep in touch with a couple of people I met on here who have since left. The difference might have been that I kept odd hours and talked on IM more where there was a chance to have real time conversations.

I think the sharing everything part is the difference between a regular friend and a "best" friend. You can share everything with a best friend, not just the good stuff - and its not about "needing" them to have a shoulder to cry on, but about wanting to share all their experiences good or bad because they mean alot to you.

I agree completely. The difference is who you "want" to share stuff with, big or small, good or bad, it's the person, or people, you just feel, hey I want them to know this stuff, not for any real reason or return, just because they mean something to me.
