I wanted to get an Alsation (German Sheppard) or Doberman but came across this breed when on Wikipedia. Not for now but the future when I return to the UK. Anyways, post pics of your dogs. ![]() |

We had a Golden Retreiver a while back, fantastic dog, very family friendly. It isn't. Not really a place to come unless you're retiring or on holiday.

| il dolce far niente ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Some of my dad’s family have farms, and whenever they have something valuable, instead of bothering with expensive alarms and locks, they simply tie an alsatian to it. THe experience of tying dogs up is enjoyable and if you’re not careful you become addicted. In no time we find many alsatians attached to objects of no conceivable value. The rusting fiat uno, sitting under the hedgerow, undriven for seventeen years, has its own alsatian, securely harnessed to the front wheel with plaited sailors rope. And then they start barking. You don’t want anything bred for guarding: they bark so much it’ll drive you up the wall. Once one of them starts, they all start, and it’s the closest dogs will ever come to operatic production. Just get yourself a labrador or golden retriever. Golden retriever is the best dog ever invented! NOw you have to promise not to get the RSPCA on us. Oh and hope you get back to scotland in one piece. |

Thing was a guard dog though, protecting it's pack and area(even if it's humans and their house). Yeah, lots agree, Golden retreiver is a great dog. Also had a lab that couldn't hack it as a blind dog but damn he was great. But If i get a dog it's partly for practical purposes. Looking after the house while I'm at work is one and there lies the problem with the one I want. It's not a great guard dog. Though it's just so damn cute that I want one. I checked the prices and it costs about up to 800 pounds or $1600 US. Starting price is about 500 GBP or $1000. For a puppy. Thing about these dogs are they're not bread to have certain characteristics or a certain colour scheme, they're all natural and have been since the crossing of whatever dog came before and wolves. Lovely dog to get. Please, post pics of them! Here's the stray I look after now. ![]() Lots of dogs running stray out here but he's the only one who's not afraid to come close. Danny. Last edited by Scotty : 11-27-2007 at 03:43 PM.

| il dolce far niente ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Golden retrievers just want to lick burglers' faces. They're too friendly. Better go down to argos to buy an alarm. But you shouldn't have to pay that much for a dog surely. I think find someone with unwanted puppies, or go to dog-home. I luckily got an unwanted retriever off a distant family contact, yet she's absolutely perfect dog - healthy, sane, ect. And looks glamorous at all times.
