Saudi Court condemns rape victim to 200 lashings and six months prison

She is guilty of having been in a car with a “non relative” male at the time of the aggression by a group of men. The fist hearing had “only” condemned her to 90 lashings, but the Appeals Court increased the sentence because the young women “attempted to influence judgement through the media”.

There's a picture of the woman but no point showing it, her face is covered.

What i find amazing is how all the rulers of the country live in london. The women always look like they're having fun, whizzing around st john's wood in their maseratis, very smartly dressed, totally western. It's just in their interest, the preservation of wealth, to keep the common arabs in medieval times.

Im not sure its all the leaders fault. They may actually be pretty liberal compared with the rest of the people, Saudi Arabia is a very traditional country. There may be serious opposition if the leaders tried to change that.

No it's very top-down. OK it's bottom up too. But the top-down is the main thing. The government bans pop music and almost all television!

Problem is that people are focusing on the rape, when it has nothing to do with it. She was in the car with another guy who wasn't family, she presumably knew the law and broke it.
