A couple of years ago there was this show called "America's Top Inventor". I hated everything about it until I saw a guy with a shovel. He had sorta long hair, sold his house, and was so confident in his shovel. And one of the judges changed his mind about letting him pass... Oh man.

Because of the desparation of the contestants and the amount of sacrifice and hopes they had to put into their inventions, that crap made me an emotional wreck. It made my cry no less than four times in all of my viewings. I'm not sure what kind of cheap heart strings the show was pulling to this day.

I think I don't quite understand. A man was confident in his shovel and therefore he was on TV in front of a jury?

I never understood the hype about the Backdorm boys - neither the one about the Backstreet Boys, but that's another story. Anyway, those various lip sync acts on YouTube made me think. In conclusion I made a psychological discovery. It's mainly about how own opinions are influenced by other people's opinions on the same topic and how it matters more on what one thinks about those persons and less about how their opinions are reasoned. I find that rather disturbing.

Example:

You think lip syncing on YouTube isn't art. You ask someone, who you deem respectable about what they think about the topic. You get an answer you expected, something like "Well, I think that's a waste of time to watch. It's pointless". You nod your head and feel confirmed.

But then a person, you deem even more respectable, someone who knows more about related issues says "These lip syncing acts on YouTube are so cool, I'll try one by myself - oh just did. And here's the link". And you're like 'WTF?' You feel uneasy and ask yourself, if you should rethink your opinion about that. What's even more disquieting is the triteness of the issue. You're like 'I shouldn't worry about something as banal as this, but I do. What's wrong with me?'

Do you know what I mean?
