I've just watched "So you think you can dance" and last week some of "Aussie Idol".

Some of those auditioning were very good, but there were some that were totally shocking. I don't know anything about dancing or singing, so if I can pick shockingness, I would think either the person themself could also pick it. Or at the very least someone close to them would pick it and discourage them from trying.

So would you try and discourage someone who thought they were good at something, but really weren't from making heading down a path destined to fail?

Of course. Why make a fool of yourself privately when you can do on international television and have a judge point out just how much you suck? What doesn't kill them can only make them stronger.

^ I think I'd do the same. And if they don't listen, I'd drop it and have let them realise it on their own.

Normaly yes, but in the case of AI no.

I dont know if you get American AI, but remember that Asian dude who sand She bangs she bangs, dont know his name now but he made a nice chunk of money.

And how about that big goofy guy and his little friend with the big eyes that looked like a chipmunk, go a small gig co-hosting on the TV Guide channel.

You never know what might actualy happen.

I don't think people go on those shows unless they believe they are good enough so it probably wouldn't matter what someone said to them. As Open said though, some get work despite their complete lack of talent....or is it because of their complete lack of talent.
