| currently without DSL :-( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I live in a small town - country side, lots of sprouce trees. It's actually nice, but traffic infrastructure sucks big time. I guess this is the only place in Germany, where it takes you 2 hours to travel 50 km by car (there are no other options, public transport is practically dead), no matter what direction you choose. It's not so bad, that there's no highway near my hometown, what gets on my nerves are these darn road works in every effing village and those portable traffic lights that come with them. Everywhere the same picture: a few 100 meters of the street are dug up in spring, in summer the municipalities don't have money for the construction workers to finish the job, so the traffic lights are still present in autumn, when a makeshift paving is applied that lasts exactly one winter before new road works are set up at the exact same spot in spring again. And none of those municipalities nearby learn from the mistakes they make every year. |

Wasn't that far out, good public transport etc. Only took a half hour to get into the city centre with buses and trains leaving every half hour. Stayed in the city centre for a while gotta say I loved it. Everything, clubs bars, shops, anything you wanted right next door and my mates were living right on the same block. Had the added bonus of having work right down stairs too. |

So there's lots of green space, countryside is just nearby and school is close too. I guess an hour's commute would make it feel more isolated. But I did like staying at my sister's flat when she lived in central London... but it's too expensive there to have the standard of living I have now. |

The state highway department is about to embark on a 2-3 year rebuilding of a major highway that connects the affluent suburbs with the major metropolitan area here. It is going to wreck havoc with people's standard of living. 150,000 vehicles use that route every week day. Where is that volume of traffic going to go? Some people have already resorted to buying or renting living space in the city. A few have even changed jobs. |

Although, after living in metro New Orleans for a while...nice, clean and SAFE is fantastic! yes, the commute is a b!tch, esp. with current gas prices, I spend about 500 bucks a month on gas. If I were single I would live right smack dab in the middle of a big city. |

No...er..maybe? I drive a total of 98 miles for my commute m-f, then add on 20 miles to that on mtw for kids soccer practice which is 10 miles away. on weekends i don't know, sometimes i drive alot of places, sometimes I don't. All's I know is for the last 2 months, I have filled up my car at least 10 times a month and it cost $48 bucks to fill. So 500 was a round-up...but its close. also, here I am paying around 3.25 for reg gas. ![]() oh, and i bought my car in sept with about 10K miles on it and now it has close to 45K. does that help? math gives me headaches...ask me about literature. | |
