Default If money's no object

This is kind of a branch from the Dream job thread. If money was no object what would you do?

Would you work, if so doing what?
Would you travel and could you happily live that way for a very long time?
Would you become really good at video games, and how long could you do that for?
Would you become a philanthropist and get involved in causes, which ones?
Or something else entirely?

Think about, Bill Gates could quite comfortably never work again, yet he still has to do something with his time.

If I were independently wealthy, I would:
1. invest most of the money wisely,
2. quit my present job,
3. buy myself a very nice car,
4. provide a one-time gift to selected relatives in the form of annuities,
5. bequeth select amounts to various good organizations, and
6. live happily off the interest, traveling occasionally to Europe and the Caribbean.

I would by my own group of stations and program them to what I think is right.
Travel, Maybe some..not a lot of places I really want to see
I could live without video games, but there a a few hobbies I'd like to start up again
I would of course have my dream home- an A frame out in the country.

FixR, you've answered a different question and outlined what you'd do with the money. Money is no object, you can give multiple gifts, you don't need to invest it, have a dozen nice cars.

What to do with the money is the easy question. What are you going to be doing with your time so you are living happily?

I would start a crime empire and call myself The Kingpin.

I would also invest in bowling alleys.

Money is not infinite and neither is time (that a person is alloted). Even with a lot of money, one should budget it wisely. Yet money, even a infinite amount, cannot buy time.

I would start a detective agency and pursue the Kingpin. In my off time, I would bowl.

I'd buy stuff. Constantly. My whole life would be about travelling to far flung points of the world for fittings with fabulous designers, both of shoes and clothes, that I'd found while travelling to far flung points of the world in search of the ultimate cocktail companion snack, both savoury and sweet. I'd also go in search of the worlds most talented jeweller (no, God no, not Solo) and track down the most fabulous gems. Also, I'd mount a campaign to find the Worlds Greatest Hotel Bed, with some deliciously sexy husband I'd bought.

Solo is very talented... I'd track him down (not that difficult).

I'm sure he is. I just put that disclaimer in because it could've sounded creepy otherwise.

Absolutely. Bought husbands are the best. I hear Canada's the best country for them. The blonde haired brown eyed ones are the most poular, I believe.

This is a fantastic thread.
I would:
1. Build my dream house here. Buy a beachhouse somewhere. Buy an apt. in NYC, pref lower Manhattan.
2. Open my bookstore Attend book fests, maybe even start my own. (i'm rich right?) Ste up scholarships for young writers.
3. Travel a ton. Go EVERYWHERE. Possibly follow the counting crows around for a bit (silly me). I've always wanted to follow my football team all season and go to all the away games. yay fun! I want to go to soccer (sry futbal) games in Europe and South America. whoo hoo. now were really having fun. visit all my friends.
4. Give loads of money to charities that help out little kiddies.
5. set-up my family for life.
6. SHOP, SHOP, SHOP! Just like Missyo, I would buy lots of art because I can't afford it right now and I would love to have some.
7. Spread the wealth, buy lots of presents and gifts for all of my friends.
8. 1 hour alone with JH. priceless.

And like in the dream job thread, open resturaunt/bar. With lots of money, a very cool one.
And buy a condo, ether in North Beach or NYC.

Last week I had a meeting with the career guidance people that my last job has kindly provided me a program with. "If money was no object" was a question he put up as a way of thinking and focussing on what it really is I'd like to do. Takes the need for money out of the thinking pattern so you start to think outside the square a bit for what you really want....then you have something to really work towards.

I'll go with most of Ophelia's list;

Building a home here in the Derbyshire countryside, maybe a small holding with huge out buidings for my hubby's massive bike/car/Land Rover collection, a fabulous beach house (the one we stayed in in Ibiza would be perfect, so all my friends and family could come)... that Lower East Side Apartment, one in London too, so my US friends could come and stay.
Set up funds for my nephew and nieces and my kids, natch.
I like the book store idea... or a deli/cafe... something.
Charities; Cancer Research, Hospice trusts, local hospital funds, African aid, Aids Research.
And most importantly; I'd buy my (and my family's) health.
I'm already pretty healthy but I'd employ a chef to cook healthy, delicious meals, using organic, local, good quality produce... build a gym at home, employ a personal trainer, work out like I already do, get private health cover and regular checks. Have a yoga instructor.

Because there's no point having all that wealth without your health.
