Great Britian, in your case, Simon. You will have to consult your government for information regarding the time necessary to obtain one and the documentation needed. Visas are needed to enter the US from most but not all foreign countries. See this US Department of State web site: http://travel.state.gov/. Visas are issued by the country you are visiting. In effect, a passport says you are a citizen in good standing of a certain country; a visa says you may enter a certain country for a specific purpose and for a specific period of time. |

Listen I don't want to discourage you but it' s too much of a cat and mouse game to get a damn passport. You'll probably have to place about 13 calls which will go unanswered depending of the time of the day when you place the call. Then you'll have to waste about 140 dollars(american of course) just to get a piece of paper with sum plastic. After you arrive they'll probably get you in a room where everything is pitch black and when you turn around someone will look at you for an uncomfortable amount of time if they don't know you or you look/are dressed different. And if they're anything like holdingford, they don't like muslims because they don't kiss the baby jesus. Oh, and jews killed christ. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart : 03-17-2007 at 05:10 PM. |

When I applied for a US passport prior to 9/11, I filled out a form, had my picture taken at a post office, and showed them a copy of my birth certificate. Within a month I had the passport (I could have gotten it sooner if I had paid an extra fee). None of the countries I visited in Europe required a visa and when I presented my US passport they just waved me on through not even bothering to stamp my passport (I finally asked to have it stamped just to prove I when there). I had more delay getting back into the US - the Dutch airplane crew had failed to fill out some lame form and the custom official in charge in Detroit had a hair up his a$$ that day. |

All I did was go to my local city hall with my birth certificate, got my picture taken, and filled out a form. It took about 2 months to come in the mail. There wasnt much inconvenience. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Eliza'snumber1fan You do not need a visa or any other documentation from the United States to get into the US. Just a passport from England. You do not need a passport 6 months before entering. The only 6 month rule I could find from the DHS. Quote:

| Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Simon....I just renewed my U.S. passport and it took about six weeks from start to finish, from the day i dropped it off at the post office until it arrived back in the mail. I didn't tho have any need to get a visa because I'm not off to another country. Here in the U.S. we can pay extra...$25-35....and get expedited service, which means about a weeks wait and not six weeks. U.S. travel agents can also get expedited visa service. Hope this helps....tho Britain most likely has different methods. |

| The Former Owner - now just a poster! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just went through this for my trip to Germany. My passport was expiring in about 5 months. Luckily I decided to renew before the fact because countries do not allow you to enter if the passport is about to expire in 6 months or less. I expedited my renewal because they are saying over 1 million passport requests are coming per month. Took about 3 weeks to get it back in the mail. Just went to the post office to get my photos done. that was only $15 plus $127 for expedited renewal. |

| currently without DSL :-( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mine already required one of those photos where one isn't allowed to smile. Plus the passport (which is only valid for 5 years!) has an RFID-chip. If I applied for it half a year later, they would have taken a fingerprint as well. Isn't RFID great? : http://sicherheitskultur.at/RFID_privacy.htm Since we're not in the language thread, I translate the speech balloon of the comic: "Dear customer. The RFID-chip in your tampon signals that it's brimful. Check out our range of tampons in the next aisle, rack 7." |
