I don't know how many of you this might appeal to but back in the 1977 Benoit Mandelbrot published "The Fractal Geometry of Nature" and Martin Gardner published some snippets of code in Scientific American to generate fractals on computers and for a couple of months the world's computing power (which today would be the equivalent of a modest home PC) was devoted to turning out page after page of these incredible mathmetical constructs.

The functions itself isn't that complicated. Of course Complex numbers and recursive thinking make things a little difficult.

Anyway, when certain parts on the border of the "appleman" are viewed x-times magnified, other structures can be found, such as this spiral. Note that different colors stand for different moduli of the number at the specific point in the 2-dimensional (complex) number plane.

Missy has this entropy thing all worked out. The sane posters, just like the ice, will lose their sense of structure and melt to just become water.
