Spankings!

It is basically illegal in the states.

So, any other country rule out spanking your children also?

What kept me in line was the belt. if spankings were illegal I would of did the worst things that crept into my mind at night.

How do you know? Maybe if you hadn't been beaten you would have turned out as an even better member of society... maybe.
I'm not against the very occasional slap to control a very naughty child who's put himself or others in danger but I don't really think it's often the best method of teaching right from wrong.
You (a child) are in the wrong, so I (an adult) will hit you. Something grates there.

Could you be more specific? We have 50+ states and all have different State Laws.

Any type of parental dicipline in the united states is illegal. The ACLU is making sure of that.

i had a smack on the bottom when i was naughty as a child,it did'nt do me any harm.I had good parents that taught me right from wrong.

There's nothing wrong with spanking as long as you don't use it as the only way to solve problems with your kids. It's a tool for parents just like grounding your kids, and I use spanking as a punishment for my family still today.

Spanking is not really illegal. Using a belt of something like that might be in some states.

I was never really spanked though I did get the belt from my father once.

My dad used the belt on me and I turned out alright. It helped me behave because I knew what would happen if I didn't. If parents don't spank there kids they end up running wild.

What happened when you got too big for him to beat you? To say all children who are not beaten are going to cause trouble is ridiculous. As ridiculous as saying all children who receive corporal punishment will become model citizens.

Let's try and use a balanced judgement.

If it helped you behave, then why wouldn't you think the first beating would be the last?

I agree. Surely an adult who buys the toys, drives the car, sets the rules of the house, can find something a little less primitive than hitting as a form of punishment.

I think it can be used, but I wouldnt use it unless it was a last resort. Sometimes a child will just not listen and a little force is necessary rather then letting them get away with it. I have been hit very few times so I know it was only as a last option.

Who said they were the same? I didn't. They're still ways to discipline your kids, and if you think it set you straight and knew what'd be coming if you didn't behave, then the first time would be the last time.

My parents never touched me. At all. And I'm pretty straight. I can't recall ever doing anything too bad - never smoked or drank or anything like that.

It's all of how much time the parent spends time with their child and giving their children attention when needed to raise a good person in society. Although sometimes that may not work...
