According to Wilipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_...a_and_Nagasaki 140,000 died in Hiroshima and 74,000 in Nagasaki either as a direct result of the bombs or subsequently from the effects of the radiation.

Although I've been known to be a pessimist, I am confident there won't be a nuclear war.

Those pics are mostly (all?) from before 1960.

Once the missles start flying, do you think they will only land where intended? This is not a matter of killing a few hundred with a conventional bomb. Hundreds of thousands could die directly from the blast or indirectly from radiation. In addition there would be the staggering cost of cleaning up the mess. Nuclear weapons function as a deterent but in reality they are like putting a loaded gun to your head.
