It was a very nice train. It depends on what kind of train. That train I went on had a movie threater car, a few dinning cars, a bar car, a few 2 story cars with lounges and observtion decks. Had some suite cars where you have a privite room, I didnt have one of those, just chairs that lean back. Not too comfortable to sleep on. I've been on a lot of short distance trains, each car is very much like busses, but you can walk from car to car. Last edited by open32 : 08-13-2006 at 01:09 AM. |

The train system in your country is far better than here in Brazil. The trains here in Brazil are very ugly and dirty like this one: ![]() where a lot of people use it to work. About our subway, it's very different. Our subway is compared with the best ones of the world. If you to want to know more, click here This page of the site was translated by me! | Bloomin' crazy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wow, haha, I'm kinda surprised most of you people have never been on a train. I've been on numerous train rides through the years. I used to travel by train daily. It's a common way of transportation here, because of the mountains and valleys and fjords and whatnot. Anyway, the trains over here are way more comfortable than the bus. It's faster and it's not nearly as bumpy (not the new trains anyway) as a bus ride. The seats are great. I would say more comfortable than those on the bus because the train is more spacious. You can actually fit your legs! There's usually more to look at through the windows as well, because the railroads go through more...deserted areas. We have a couple of types of trains. There is one kind that travels shorter distances, and those have a tiny bathroom and seats pretty much. Then there are those who travel longer distances (like Oslo-Bergen, about 6 hours), they usually have a cafeteria, more bathrooms, beds and even a 'play room' for the kids. And they're usually more comfortable than the others. If the trains over there are of the same quality as the ones over here, your first ride will be a great experience. I found a picture of the inside of the newer trains, the "regular" ones, shorter distances: ![]() Have fun! |

The high speed trains in Europe are quite comfortable and an efficient mode of transport especially if you can afford to travel first class. In the US they are neither comfortable, nor efficient and are primarily used in a commuter mode. I've never been on a Canadian train. Hopefully they have copied the Europeans and not us.

| Lovely ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i dont find it strange that this is Sarah's first traintrip. the prices here in canada are f-ing ridiculous! a 3 hour trainride from kingston to toronto is 489 dollars while a 3 hour trainride from my hometown to amsterdam only costs 50 euros (still think thats alot of money aswell). trainrides are normally fun. you dont get carsick, you have enough room to sit and you can walk around as much as you want. the only downside is the toilets, they are absolutely gross and very small. |

| Trains here are sort of a "special" thing. No one really rides the trains that go very far for everyday uses. In Toronto we use the subways or the GO Train. The subways aren't even that elaborate, and the GO Train stations are pretty few and far between. |

We dont really have trains for local transportation. We have tri-trail, which are the ones I said that look like a bus and there pretty cheap, about 10$, but we dont have train tracks that run through our cities only in industrial areas so there not that popular. Tri-Rail and Amtrak, the west coasts too major train companies are both subsidized by the US and State governments and operate at a loss of about 1 billion dollars a year. Our long distance trains are nice, the ones that go state to state. They do cost a lot, as much as a plane. Miami has the Monorail and it takes you many places around Miami. Its Free and its used a lot. Florida has no subways because we are below seas level, just like homes have no basements. Last edited by open32 : 08-13-2006 at 01:32 PM.
