National Geographic magazine has published excellent map for many, many years. The advantage of Google Earth is that it is based on fairly recent and in some cases fairly detailed satellite images and enables the user to get a view of a target from any prospective. There are certain exceptions, of course. Even in Flight Simulator you can't fly your plane into the White House or US Capitol building. (Flying through the legs of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis can be quite challenging, though.)
