Default Fanhost Interview - SaRaH

Name: Sarah

Age: 20

Joined fanhost:
01-05-2001..actually got to clear this up. This account I’m using now isn’t my original one. I guess when they were moving FH over, they screwed it up and put me with some older account. My original account was actually made sometime in 2003. It makes me feel like an older member, which I am not.

Have you ever used another username?

I have had quite a few actually. For example, Queen Amidala, and Padme (yeah, I had a star wars thing going on when I first signed up, mostly because of Hayden Christensen). Then I decided I didn’t like any of the usernames I choose, so I just went with Sarah. Later I found SaRaH looked cooler than just Sarah. What can I say, I can’t stick with one thing long enough.

Where can we find you on fanhost?

At the moment, Whatever and Women are from Venus. I’m not a big fan of entertainment gossip, so none of the celebrity boards have any real interest to me (though they are run really well, if you thought I was hating on them). But yeah, up until recently I was more of a “stick you to your own board” type of poster, than realized there was more of Fanhost to explore.

I know what you mean. It took me months to venture out of Katie Holmes. You were, along with me, recently promoted to moderator of the Whatever forum. How do you feel about the Whatever forum?

I really enjoy Whatever, a lot. Having spent most of my time at Fanhost in Women are from Venus, it was nice change of pace from talking about women’s issues to whatever I felt like talking about. Plus, and I know its going to sound like sucking up, but the posters of Whatever also make it a comfortable atmosphere to post at. Now don’t get me wrong, posters on Women are from Venus also make a comfortable atmosphere to post, its just the change in pace and topics that makes me like Whatever.

So who do you feel closest to on fanhost? And who would you rather wasn't posting as much as they do?

Heh, good question. I guess if I had to answer that, it would be Val, or Lobby before she got banned. Those two, I think I get along with the best. As for who I rather not see posting as much, that answers easy. Me. If I could count how many times a day I’m on there posting, it blow everyone’s mind.

What one change do you think would help fanhost?

Less bickering between the mods and the admins over trivial things.

How do you feel about the recent turbulence in Whatever?

I really wasn’t all that shocked about it. It’s one of those things that you know is going to happen on Whatever. If it isn’t people spamming and demanding they be banned, it's someone else degrading other members, or mods. Its not really shocking to me to anymore. It’s Whatever, things like this are always going to happen.

My experience would seem to back you up on that. Do you have any uberplan for the board?

No, not really. I’m going to just stick to how I’ve always done things on FH.

Tell us what you think of the following posters in just a few words:

1. Blackmask - Good poster and mod, don’t know her personally, but she seems like a nice girl.

2. Big Poppa - Good admin, open to ideas and hasn’t banned me yet for the annoying pm’s I’ve sent him.

3. Vulture - Also a good admin, is a good decision maker, and a decent graphics maker.

4. Charlie 5 x 5 - Ah, don’t really know who this is? Sorry, bad with names.

Charlie 5 x 5 used to post quite a lot on the Creative Expression forum. I don't know where she is now. She takes nice photos.

5. Silverspoon - Tell you the truth, at one time I thought he hated me. Other than that, pretty cool guy, cool website and whatnot.

I think everyone goes through the "Silverspoon hates me" phase.

6. Jocasta - A cool mommy :P

7. Jennifer Noble - Was an awesome co mod for the day I was mod with her.

Enough fanhost talk! We didn't come here to talk about fanhost! Where are you right now in your career? Is everything going according to the plan?

Currently, I’m just a unemployed college grad(ok, I have a “job”, but I wouldn’t really consider it a “real” job). I’m trying to keep my hopes high in terms of finding a full time career, but so far the road has been a bumpy one. You have this idea that once you get out of college that jobs are just going to come flying at you all at once. However, then you step back into reality and realize you have to be the one that fights for these jobs.

Those lying bastards! I was told the same thing! They lie and lie and lie.

If they didn’t lie, you wouldn’t be going to their college now would you? Anyways, I had an interview lined up with the Ottawa Catholic Distract school board on Tuesday the 23rd, for an Occasional Educational Assistant (or Special Needs teacher) position. Plus, I have an interview sometime with a place called Service Coordination, which places you with families who have children with special needs. In terms of whether or not everything is going to plan, well if I said yes, then I just be lying to myself. I had three main things planned out for myself once I finished college:

1. Get a full time career a month after I finish college.

2. Move out by the end of May, or early June.

3. Go back to school in September.

Sadly, none of these plans have been completed yet. I can’t really blame anyone but myself for this. Simply, because once I get out of routine, I lose my motivation. Also, I’ve always had a hard time sticking to long term goals and plans. Here’s hoping I can achieve at least one of these three goals in the next few weeks.

Tell us about where you're from and where you live now, what you like about it or what you don't like about it:

Before I moved to Ottawa, we used to move like a mad man. If I remember correctly I’ve lived in the following places: Toronto (downtown part of it), North York (where I was born), Scarborough (part of Toronto), Hamilton, and Ajax. After that, we moved to Peterborough (where I grew up). It was what you would call a hick town, which had little to nothing to do there. That town did have a world record of some sort there, but I can’t remember what it was for though. It also had beaches you couldn’t go to half the time, and summer concerts with bands you never heard of. It was also the place where we owned our first house.

In 2000, we moved to Ottawa, because my dad got a job with the Government of Canada. To put Ottawa in a nutshell, its like a dimmed down version of Toronto, just most people here speak French and English (I’m not one of those people). Ottawa itself is a nice place to live, lots of museums, and things to see. However, after you lived here for more than 2 years it gets really dull. Plus, out where I live (in the suburbs), there isn’t a hospital around for 30 minutes. Go figure, I live in an area that people are saying is the fastest growing community in Ontario, and we don’t have a hospital. Yeah, I’m screwed if I get really hurt here, but on the bright side we have a Starbucks.

I think suburbs are the same wherever you go. Where would you like to live?

I’ve always wanted to move to Ukraine, England, or Ireland. I hope to at least visit one of these places some day.

What's going on in Ukraine that you want to be a part of?

Nothing in particular, its just where my grandfather is from and I thought it be a good place to visit. I'd like to learn the language before I go, though.

How do you get along with your parents?

We have a "love/hate" relationship, but then again don’t all families? I was a pretty decent child growing up, so they never really got to flex their parent muscles. When I hit 15 and started acting out, it became the "love/hate" relationship. My dad is one of those parents that doesn’t want to act like strict parents that he’s seen. He’s pretty open to things like guys, sex, and life. Not that he encourages me to go out there and sleep around, but he’s not like “No sex until your married!”. My mom though, she’s like your typical "mother in a bubble" mom. Doesn’t get the concept that I’m not 10 anymore and that I like to go out sometimes and have fun. Only recently did she meet one of my guy friend, and by some miracle she liked him. So yeah, I have the best of the both worlds. One parent who lets me see the world, and the other who won't let me go overboard with it.

Lucky you. Do you get on with your brothers and sisters?

We also have the "love/hate" relationship. Sometimes, we’ll be all cheery to each other, and then one of us says the wrong thing and its like World War 3. Most times we get along fine, and in fact I’m very protective of my brother. Like this kid was trying to bully him when he was younger, I found out, and confronted the kid myself. Lets just say by the end of it, the kid never bothered my brother again.

Remind me not to piss you off. Pop (culture) quiz, hotshot!

Tell us something that comes to mind when you hear the following:

Eric Cartman: What-evah! I do what I want!

Foamy (the squirrel): A scary squirrel world.

Michael Scott (regional Manager of Dunder-Mifflin): Who?

The Crazy Frog: Some frog used for ringtones?

Wolfmother: Some band? Yeah I don’t know.

Kraftwerk: I have no clue.

Disappointing. Wolfmother is a great Led Zeppelin-alike band from Australia. Kraftwerk are electro-pop pioneers from Germany. Michael Scott is the Regional Manager of Dunder-Mifflin in the NBC comedy series "The Office", based on the Ricky Gervais BBC series. Onwards and upwards. What would you do if you had a million dollars, apart from donating it to the solo1 charity appeal?

You have quite the ego huh? Anyways, I think I give a part of it to my parents, then I move out, get a car and go back to school. If there was money left over after school and all that, I travel.

Who would you regard as your male role model?

I’d say it’s my dad, because he’s taught me the finer things of life. Like how to not take everything so serious, and how to have a more general open look to life. He’s also never pushed me when I didn’t want to be, but still believed I was really smart and was able to do anything I set my mind to. I don’t think I could ask for a better dad.

And who would be your female role model?

I never really had a female role model, so I can’t really answer this question.

Hah! Your mom is going to kick your ass if she sees this. What's the strangest dream you've ever had?

I was your wife! I kid, that be a great dream, oh the scandal! Anyways, the strangest dream I ever had was one that centered on the end of the world. Only one other person and I lived through it. So the first part of it was the typical living it up, but with no one around. The next part had us being stalked by some monster thing. The details are kind of blurry now, but that dream stuck with me for a good while. Also, any dream where I’m getting married or am pregnant is also very strange.

Maybe your mind is conflating the idea of being pregnant with the idea of being stalked by some monster thing. Because that's essentially what it is. Never have a baby. What do you do when your mad?

It really depends on how or why I’m mad. If it’s at a person and they’re still talking to me, they’re going to see me go off on them. I tend to regret it right after, but man it feels good sometimes to go off on them. Most times when I’m mad though, I just tell people to leave me alone to let me deal with it. I use to do kick boxing and yoga, so that usually helped me calm down. Now I either let it out in writing, or I go for a walk to calm down.

You didn't "go for a walk" with that guy who was hassling your brother, though, did you? What's the worst thing you've done when you were mad?

I punched my friend across the face. She kept teasing me over something stupid, I told her to stop, but she didn’t so I punched her in the face. I’ve also told people to never talk to me again, and once called it quits with a guy because he has pissed me off so much.

If someone says they think you are pretty, do you deny that you are?

That’s a good question. Generally, I won’t deny it to a persons face, but inside I’ll tell myself I’m not. Like when I dressed up for my graduation dance, my mom told me I was gorgeous. I agreed with her, but when I looked into the mirror I took back that statement to myself.

You're such a girl. But lastly, life is full of choices.

South Park or The Simpsons? South Park. I mean I love the Simpsons, but they never had Towelie. “Don’t foget to bring a towel". I do a wicked impression of Towelie.

TrineX or Lobby? Lobby, since we use to talk on msn a lot.

Black or White? Black.

Vampire or Werewolf? Vampire, they make for better books.

Sports or Reading? Reading, sports confuse me too much.

Wax or Shave? Shave, I tried one strip of wax on my leg before…NEVER AGAIN!

Prime numbers or numbers divisible by something other than themselves and one? Ah, neither. I hate numbers. :P

Pete Doherty or Carl Barat? Pete Doherty. Who doesn’t a love a guy that will shot drugs into his own fans?

Allegedly. Jello or ice-cream? Ice Cream, the feeling of Jello makes me gag.

Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan or Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan? Alec Guinness, just cause I thought he put more feeling into it.

That's it. We're done. Is there anything you'd like to add?

You did a super interview! Thanks to the members of Fanhost who picked me to be interviewed, hope you enjoy it! Of course, a big thanks goes to you solo1 for doing the interview.

Ah, the first soloview..brr, doesn't sound quite right. Good job.

Bahaha, grew up in Peterborough! My music teacher was from there. E.Coli for the win. Was it there...? I forget. Peterborough sucks. So do most of those places you lived, except for Toronto.

Very well done interview. Miss some of the sarcastic remarks that winter peppered in his, but this was done well and learned some new things about Sarah.

First off, I read it... all of it, which is a big plus and I enjoyed it; just about the right balance of fun and informative.

I'm still reading and analyzing it.
Until the point that I stopped, where Sarah quoted me, seems to be being a good interview.
I will continue later after my job here in the radio, then I'll give my opinion.

Yes it is, as the result of a decision I took to make it so.

Aw, but the length was part of the fun of the interviews. Good time killers if anything. Now it's up to the interviewees to make ridiculously long replies.

I took a different view. I took a lot from the Winter template but I wanted to change a few things too. So I did. One of the things was the length.

But longer = learning more about the person!

More is not always better; I prefered the shorter interview.

Sometimes that can be true. I just made a decision and ran with it. Only Vulture noticed that I had purposely toned down the negative vibes in some previous interviews - and of those who noticed my interview was shorted, only you seem to regard it as a bad thing.

Well. It's my first. I want to hear everyone's reactions so that I can learn, in case I am called upon again.
