| Who knows...I just read a trilogy of fantasy books called The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay, and he uses the legend of King Arthur and the whole love triangle between him, Guinevere and Lancelot as part of his story. It's really quite nice. It's just a small part of the overall story (or the "tapestry" if you will) but still interesting. Maybe there's some truth in the legend. That's how things usually happen on TV, anyway. |

| One time my history teacher thought I was plagiarising on my paper about Freud. I was like "*****, shut up. Let's fight." And he kicked my ass. I didn't fail the paper, though. Quote:

Everything else we "know" about King Arthur, the knights, Camelot (which was not Glastonbury, nor was he buried there), the lady of the lake, Merlin - it's all made up. However, as with most myth cycles, it is possible to identify central themes. For instance, as I said on a different thread, the Christian festival of Easter, ostensibly celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, is actually a much older vegetation and regrowth festival. There is a similar story in the King Arthur myth cycle, when King Arthur gets very sick, and takes the entire country down with him. Watch John Boorman's Excalibur (which, incidentally, was filmed about ten miles away from where I live) for a greater exploration of the mythical aspects of the King Arthur story. | |

Did you know that the life expectancy is now over 80 years old for Japanese Women and in the high 70s for many other countries ? That's remarkably close to the human life span so things are getting as good as they are going to get (unless we use science to become cyborgs or something). | Bloomin' crazy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just read something about him. A Norwegian writer suggested that King Arthur was the king of Norway for the last years of his life (while he was still the king of Wales). He was a descendent of a Norwegian king who conquered England around year 400 (if I remember correctly). After the battle of Camlan he was taken to Sunnmøre by his sister and that's where he ended his life (he was murdered just outside a cave where he hid his treasure, "Ringsteinsskatten" - ringstone treasure?). Norway's claim to fame? :p Anyway, I love those kinds of legends. I don't know much about King Arthur though. I saw the movie, it was bad. |
