| Get some! ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have a hard drive I'd like to sell, possibly put it on eBay. I know how to pack it up: just the way it came on the box, label it FRAGILE, yada yada. Question is, is it possible that A. whoever handles the package (USP, FedEx, etc.) could handle it wrong and damage it regardless if I packed it the right way B. whoever buys it claims its damaged when its not then there's this long dispute, etc. etc. etc. The thing's like brand new, my comp just won't handle a 500GB IDE/PATA drive unless its a Serial/SATA port, so 0 (zero) data, not 1 bit of info is written on it, clean as a whistle. I shipped my desktop to her house & it made it there perfectly fine & was packaged just like you are going to do, but when we came back to my state somewhere along the line someone dropped it & now that old desktop won't even turn on, something is rattling around inside it, & you can see a huge dent on the underside of it. Best advice I can give you is however you ship it & they ask you if you want insurance on it GET IT & make sure the amount you tell them is just a little bit higher than what you originally paid for it. Cause I did & put $500 for insurance on it before shipping it the second time & they paid me $345 when everything was said & done. And I still haven't got my stuff off that harddrive cause whatever is rattling around inside has something to do with power getting to it cause when you push the button on the front of it nothing happens at all, I guess at some point I'll just have to build a very basic desktop from scratch & put that harddrive into it to get my stuff off. |

| Lacey's Man ![]() ![]() ![]() | For B, you don't have much recourse. If you have them send it back to you, they could break it, but at least THEY won't get a free drive. Not much consolation. The chances of encountering someone like this are pretty low, but unfortunately not as low as you'd like. Your other option is to buy an external case that can handle that drive. Your OS will also need to be able to see large HDDs, but assuming you've got that (Anything after W2000 SP4 I believe), you are good to go. |
