Default Flat Screen resolution issues

I've had this Toshiba 32HLC56 32 in LCD TV monitor for quite some time but just recently began to use it.

I have the PS3 hooked up to it, but the screen resolution is small.

This is what it currently looks like when I watch a widescreen movie. I get the black panels all around, instead of the image taking up the whole screen.

The video cables I'm using is for ColorStream HD Component video. Is this typical for Two ColorStream HD Component video? Should I be using HDMI instead? Would the differences of resolution be due to the cables? Because I've gone thru the whole menu of the monitor and there's nothing in it to change the resolution of the monitor.

Wish I could help, but I had the Best Buy install mine when I bought it.

I doubt that you can solve this problem with cables, but give it a try.

The maximum resolution of TV is obviously higher than the resolution of the PS3.
I don't know if you can raise it on the PS3. If yes, try it there.

i doubt it's cuz of the resolution being higher than the ps3 to be honest.

The specifications of the tv itself suggest that it can output 720p or 1080i. Have you tried to setup your PS3 so it's outputting a 720p or 1080i signal?
