| Member of Sylar's Army ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ok i really want to start downloading stuff from the xbox marketplace. don't really care for online game play but i'm having problems connecting. what exactly do i need? i've had to manually enter my isp, subnet mask, gateway, dns settings. but once i do the test to see if everything is connected it fails at DNS. does this mean i have to have my pc connected to the 360 all together. i'm thinking i need to buy an extra ubs cord. i have connected the ethernet cable to the 360 and the modem which has both ethernet and usb connections. i notice that in the back of the 360 there is the ethernet connection and a usb connection right above. if i connect a usb cord only from the 360 to the modem, with the ethernet running from the modem to the computer, will that help xbox live work and properly connect? every time i try and connect i can't. my isp, subnet mask and gateway pass but the dns doesn't even if i entered the right numbers. does this mean i must be connected to the pc. ugh. this is why i hate all this xbox live stuff. |

Under the Basic Settings tab, make sure Automatic is selected for both IP & DNS settings. Let your router/cable modem assign the DNS server to your console. You really shouldn't enter that info in manually because your Dynamic IP address changes every time you connect to the internet. Last edited by Stogieman : 11-13-2007 at 12:12 AM. |

| Member of Sylar's Army ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | oh man i finally got it working. but once i got it working i realized i had no points to download what i wanted. so i had to buy some at work. oh well. 20 dollars worth it i say. heres what was wrong. i got the help from this guy at work who's had some experiance with this sort of thing. he said that by simply connecting the 360 to the cable modem by ethernet should work. it doesn't have to be connected to the pc. at first he wasn't sure why the dns couldn't be detected since everything should have been detected automatically. then after thinking about it for several seconds he asked if i had unplugged or shut off the modem. i said no. so he advised that i do so, but to leave it off for several minutes. while it was unplugged i then had to connect the ethernet from the modem to the 360 and eventually turn the modem back on. this time the modem would pick up the 360's signal instead of the pc's. from there all i had to do was sign up with MS Live and that was that. i was in. of course i then had to unplug the modem once again for several more minutes if i wanted to use it again with the pc. after all this time, that was the problem. |
