Your own computer spying on you

Symantec and Microsoft corporations have entered into a deal to track illegal downloads and unlicensed software. If there allowed to do it, there will no doubt we some lawsuits to try stop them, it could be in effect by mid 2007. This is some serious spyware. The software will arrive through Windows and Norton updates. It can not only track things like music and movie downloads but actively block the use of unlicensed software such as copies of Windows, MS Office, and other programs.

I wouldn't be too upset actually, would finally be reason enough for me to switch all the way over to Linux.

Anyway, I'm not surprised by the idea, however I'm confused, is it a joint project between M$ and Norton, or do they each have something in the works? Not that it really matters, I can't see this being allowed, and even if it is someone will hack it.

Me nether, and no doubt there will be some lawsuits to stop it. And a few years ago I would have been confident of that but internet privacy of individuals from companies is slipping away fast.
