I am a chelsea supporter...but dutch. Edwin van de Sar is a legend, he is the best keeper we have ever had and it is sad that we wont have him during the world cup.

I still remember Van der Sar from WC 98 in the semi's, penalties against Brasil, with Taffarel stoping the last two dutch shots.

He's a good keeper, I wouldn't regard him with legendary status tho, on the level of Buffon/Casillas.

All I know is that after enduring the most nerve-racking time in all of sports he sure made some fierce dance moves that screamed of arrogance. After such a close match many would have conceaded that either team could have come out on top... BUT only the Real Deal Van Dersar loves the rivalry and contest so much that he'd rub Chelsea's nose in their defeat. A beautiful touch considering they were in Chelsea's owner's home country!

It's Van der Sar. For someone who loves the guy so much you should atleast be able to spell it correctly.

Anyways you're making too much out of it, Van Der Sar didn't perform any miracles or make any saves that will be remember years from now. John Terry bottling the last penalty is probably the biggest memory for people looking back on that shootout.

If you want grandoise take Iker Casillas, quarterfinals against Italy in the Eurocup. Spain hadn't advanced past a quarterfinal in 20 years, they had lost 3 penalty shootouts on that day(June 22) and had never beaten Italy in a proffesional game since 8 decades ago.

According to italian press Casillas is in contention for the Ballon D'or, not bad for a keeper.(won La Liga, the "Zamora" trophy to the least scored GK in the league and also was pivotal in the Eurocup where he didn't allow one goal in the elimination games. Stopped two penalties against Italy who mind you actually have a history unlike Chelsea..)

Van der Sar isn't retiring this year, it wasn't his last game and it will surely take a lot more to erase the thought of Schmeichel who truly deserves legendary status.

He still has another season at utd with the extra year on his contract,weather he'll play alot of games is another thing now ben foster is fully fit.
