Lightbulb Random Pro Wrestling news

MyFox Atlanta is reporting tonight that a box containing bottles labelled as human growth hormone, a WWE contract and a memo about the WWE dress code was found in a home that had just been purchased. Police are not releasing the name of the former owner of the home because they'd like to talk to him about what was found first. We've posted an intriguing excerpt below and will post more details as they become available......

"It was actually pushed over closer to this wall," said the homeowner as he pointed to a nearby wall.

The homeowner was referring to two shoe boxes that contained several small bottles labeled as testosterone, neomasteron -- which is also an anabolic steroid -- some bottles with no markings at all and there were numerous unopened syringes.

Asked what his thoughts were upon discovering the drugs, the homeowner said "well being the fact that I have children I was horrified because my kids actually play up in that room and so the first thing I thought is what if there were to open that and they would have gotten a hold of the stuff and the syringes."

As been reported since early this morning, media outlets in Georgia have been covering a story where a homeowner in Locust Grove, GA discovered a box in his home with syringes, what appeared to be HGH and several pages of WWE documents including a contract. Since that time the media have linked WWE wrestler Mike Knox to the HGH and steroids, given Knox used to live in the house.

WWE responded to the allegations in Georgia by stating that Knox was among four developmental talents who rented a home together at that address. Furthermore Knox is the only one of the four now under contract to the company. Knox has also denied the drugs are his. You can read more here. PWI is reporting that two of the other wrestlers who lived in the home were Ryan O'Riley and Derek Niekirk. Niekirk was released by WWE last year due to drug violations while O'Riley left the company because he didn't want to be on the road 24-7.

On a side note.............former TNA and WWE performer Andrew Martin (Test)was arrested yesterday morning in Pasco County, Florida for driving under the influence of alcohol. Martin was also taken into custody due to his license being suspended or revoked. Did you know he is supposley dating Kelly Kelly and once dated Stacy Keibler...you got to be kidding me!

Andrew 'Test' Martin's side of the story on being arrested thanks to a new article in the Tampa Tribune. Martin denies being under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested on Sunday for suspicion of DUI. "Considering I don't drink alcohol or do drugs I don't know how the DUI is going to stand," said Martin. The story indicates Martin has a long history of traffic violations, including speeding, seatbelt violations and reckless driving on his Florida driving record. Martin didn't seem thrilled with being identified as a pro wrestler. When asked if he still is his response was "It's not something I want to get into."

Indianapolis news reports....... Apparently some Churches were broken into and Vandalized in Anderson, Indiana with vandals spraypainting "DX" and "Suck It" all over the buildings ala the DX Prank on the WWE Jet from 2006. This will probably not get too much coverage nationally, but if it does, you can bet it'll be another one of those moronic "pro wrestling is a bad influence" stories.

He's barely been back in the WWE for a cup of coffee and there's already bad news for Ron 'The Truth' Killings. At last night's Raw brand house show in Trenton, New Jersey, Killings may have hurt his shoulder working a match with Charlie Haas. The referee put up the X symbol and a stretcher was brought out for him. Killings managed to walk back on his own though.

Arrow WWE star Santino Marella Interview

WWE star Santino Marella Interviewed by the Miami Herald.

Timing is everything, and WWE star Santino Marella has been in the right place at the right time, even if it didn't appear that way.

Marella, a Canadian wrestler of Italian descent, already has enough material to formulate a book. He won the Intercontinental title in his first WWE match, worked with Stone Cold Steve Austin, kissed Diva Maria and was slapped ''for real'' by Jim Cornette.

Through the highs and lows, he enjoys his newfound success, especially wrestling.

''You don't wrestle much on TV -- three minute matches, six minute matches,'' he said. ``House shows I wrestle. I love wrestling. I look forward to having pay-per-view matches where I can go 20 minutes and really tell a story and leave it all in the ring.

``There's more than just the comedy. I love wrestling. I love grappling. I love submissions and smashing people. Ultimately, that's going to come out because that's part of me. So there's a part of me in Santino, but there's also a part of me that's a grappler. I think as time goes that will permeate through.

``I don't want one [comedy or wrestling] to overshadow the other. I just want them to be happily married together. I can wrestle and still be Santino.''

With a little help from former WWE star Bobby Lashley, Marella beat Umaga for the IC belt in his WWE TV debut during Raw on April 16, 2007 in Milan, Italy.

''The way I was brought in, I was thrust in. Here I am. Boom,'' said Marella, a judo competitor trained in mixed martial arts in Japan. ``Traditionally, they can come in and work hard and lose some matches and keep fighting and not give up, and that's how babyfaces get over.

``You think this guy just won't quit, and you get behind him. Everyone loves the underdogs, the Bad News Bears. I didn't have the opportunity to do that but maybe in the future.''

Marella is developing his persona and style.

''Anybody, you have to be in condition,'' he said. ``You have moves and stuff. For example, if I just get there and I'm wrestling Umaga, I don't have any patented moves. It just has to be generic until you establish those things. They can't be established on day one. It's a little tougher that way.''

Marella became established over a period of time on WWE's biggest weekly TV stage. A bad guy turn introduced fans to Marella's comedic side.

''I enjoy working as a heel more,'' he said. ``You have the opportunity to put out so much more personality.''

His humorous side helped land him a spot working with WWE great Stone Cold Steve Austin.

''That was really cool,'' Marella said. ``When I got there, Stone Cold hadn't been on for a while. When he came backstage and saw me, he thought I was a shoot from Italy and I was an Italian. He told me, `I love the character. I love everything you're doing.'''

Marella's character on television constantly berated and criticized Austin for his starring role in the WWE Films release The Condemned.

In a Miami Herald article in December 2007, Austin said: ``I knew who he was, but I really didn't take notice of him until then. He's a great talker. He got better in the six or seven weeks [in the storyline], and I think he's very entertaining. I enjoy doing business with him. I think he has a really bright future ahead of him.''

Marella breathed a sigh of relief.

'I was like, `Whew.' I was really relieved because I was ripping on him hard for six weeks,'' Marella said. ``He was awesome. That whole day in L.A. was surreal.

``The one in Philly, the week before, when I dressed up as him, that was pretty funny. The reaction of the crowd when that glass broke was actually probably a little more than L.A., but I came out instead of him.

'In L.A., it was just as good, but L.A. people were like, `Hold on, hold on. It may be a rib again.' So they kind of held back a little bit, until they saw it was really him.

``There's a lot of things that happened that night, personally and professionally. It was unbelievable. It was almost like putting a stamp on it or a coronation to the next level for me. There were so many things going on. To see the company trust me and put me in the ring with Stone Cold Steve Austin, it was unbelievable.''

Marella also had the pleasure of working with WWE Diva Maria.

''Anytime you get to kiss Maria, it's a good day on the job,'' he said. ``We're really good friends. When you come up and have a storyline as long as we did together on TV, it's something we'll share forever. We had history together on TV, and it will never be erased.''

Marella left mixed martial arts in Japan and ventured to the United States in 2005. He began training at Ohio Valley Wrestling, a feeder group to WWE in Louisville, Ky.

OVW booker and part-owner Jim Cornette yelled and allegedly slapped Marella backstage because Marella was not scared of the Boogeyman during an OVW television taping.

In a Miami Herald article in July 2006, Cornette said: ``We had a moron [Marella] in our [OVW] wrestling school, sitting in an area by ringside during a show. The Boogeyman was scaring the Be-Jesus out of everyone in sight. People were running and screaming in fear.

``This one guy thought he was tough. He was not going to get up. He wasn't going to run. He was going to laugh. I took exception to it especially with it on TV. I called him in. He said nobody told him anything about it.''

Cornette said he made some remarks and presented some scenarios for Marella of knowing what to do and what not to do in situations.

Cornette added: ``The angry Boogeyman was probably going to break him in half.''

Internet reports said Cornette slapped him. Cornette and WWE eventually parted ways.

Cornette said WWE vice president of talent relations John Laurinaitis ``is a liar. That was the excuse they used because they were looking for a reason to get rid of me because I wouldn't swallow their crap. I agreed to step aside, and I refused to do business with WWE.''

A few weeks ago, Marella recalled the incident: ``I just got there to OVW. I was there for about a month. I didn't know anything about wrestling. I was sitting there, and my daughter was sitting in front of me, and the emergency doors were behind us.

``The Boogeyman turned toward us, and I thought he was going to scare my daughter for me. So I started smiling, thinking, `This is going to be good. He's going to scare my daughter.'

``I guess Jim Cornette thought I was laughing at the Boogeyman. He got all freaked out, brought me backstage and history happened. It didn't deter me for one second. If anything, it motivated me, and I have no hard feelings with him.

``I can look back and laugh at it now. At the time, I was just afraid of being kicked out and not having the chance to train. Maybe we can have a cage match one day and then shake hands.

``It worked out.''

It sure did.

• WWE's WrestleMania 24 pay-per-view used music to rock the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando and also helped rock the charts for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Legend, Fuel and Rev. Theory.

WWE superstars making their colorful entrances on television and pay-per-view queued by audience-energizing theme songs can provide big dividends for musical performers.

Fuel's Leave the Memories Alone was the theme song for wrestling legend Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24 and the following night's Monday Night RAW on USA Network. The exposure led to the song experiencing a skyrocketing 999-percent increase last week, and a 409-increase this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

''I think it's fantastic,'' Fuel guitarist Carl Bell said in a release. ``It shows how genuinely passionate WWE fans are about their wrestling and their music. When you write a piece of music that was very passionate to you, it's nice to see people respond in the same manner, and that's what's happening here.''

After serving as one of WrestleMania 24's theme songs, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' single Snow (Hey Oh) and album Stadium Arcadium saw an increase in sales. John Legend's album Live From Philadelphia also saw a sales increase following his live performance of America the Beautiful at WrestleMania.

Rev. Theory's Light It Up also served as a theme song for this year's WrestleMania event and had their sales increase 999 percent as well. Rev. Theory performed during the final leg of WWE's Fan Axxess Tour in Orlando in front of 20,000 people. They were so impressed with the reception, the band invited WWE Diva and fan Ashley Massaro to Los Angeles last week to star in their new video, Hell Yeah.

''This is yet another great example of the many levels of exposure WWE generates for performers,'' said Neil Lawi, general manager, WWE Music Group. ``The music partnerships that we have are ever increasing, and our commitment to create global awareness for music acts today is as relevant as ever, especially with the state of the music business.

``Bands that record theme songs for WWE promotional use are establishing themselves as pop culture icons by gaining coveted exposure to millions of fans worldwide while continuing to rock the sales charts.''

In other news: According to her Myspace, Torrie Wilson has been warned by her doctors to never wrestle a match again if she wants to be healthy and able to move on her own years down the road.

Damn. I knew she was having back problems, but I didn't know they were that bad. Maybe she can pull a Shawn Michaels in a couple years.

There are reports that Ted DiBiase Jr. - son of famed heel The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase - will apparently be added to the Smackdown roster very soon. DiBiase Jr. is currently working for Florida Championship Wrestling, a WWE developmental territory.
Curt Hennig’s son Joe has also been signed to an FCW/WWE developmental contract

Natalya Neidhart, a third generation Diva of the Hart family, was introduced on Smackdown, last week. The Canadian-bred Diva told fans on SmackDown, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Natalya is the daughter of WWE Legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and the niece of WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart, and WWE Legends Owen Hart and “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith. Throughout the years, the foursome made up one of sports-entertainment’s most popular factions, The Hart Foundation. Natalya’s grandfather Stu Hart is considered Canada’s godfather of professional wrestling.

Apparently there were a lot of thefts backstage at WrestleMania this year. Nobody knows who did it, but with so many people backstage at the event, the company feels it could have been anyone from the outside. Wallets and passports were stolen so the company had to pay for emergency passports for the performers to go on the European tour. Matt Hardy was one of the wrestlers who had his wallet and passport stolen while Batista had a Rolex stolen valued at between $35,000-$60,000.

Arrow Tommy Dreamer Interview

An over-achiever, Tommy Dreamer uses plenty of heart, hard work and smarts to achieve success in a very tough business.

''Do I miss the old ECW? Yeah, but my life has changed dramatically, and I'm still very fortunate to be doing what I'm still doing,'' said Dreamer, a former Extreme Championship Wrestling original who wrestles for WWE's version.

``Every once in a while, like the Extreme Rules match that I recently had, that was a taste of what I used to do on a constant basis.

``Building up to it, I thought it was really, really good, and ratings wise, the ratings have been up lately, and I think that's cool. Chavo [Guerrero] and I just wrestled, and it was one of the highest rated [WWECW] segments in a long time.''

Dreamer made a name for himself in the renegade promotion ECW.

A match made in hardcore heaven, ECW fans took to this Dreamer. He wasn't the quickest, biggest or strongest nor the most talented in-ring performer, but Dreamer realized his dream by giving 110-percent each time which captured the hearts of hardcore wrestling fans.

Over-dramatic, per se, Dreamer's intensity in his actions and words brought audiences to their feet. He earned the nickname the Innovator of Violence, creating new ways to inflict hardcore style punishment on opponents while also taking a beating -- battered, bruised and bloodied.

Dreamer, 37, also has a good mind for the business and a good rapport with his peers, working behind the scenes in the original ECW.

When WWE Chairman Vince McMahon decided to establish a third brand in his company, he developed his own version of ECW with Dreamer one of the first hired.

''I'm happy with the show's progression,'' he said. ``For one point, it totally was away from what the original ECW was about. Again, it's Vince McMahon's vision. He owns it. He can do what he wants with it.

'You can not knock the success of WWE and Vince McMahon and his vision. So how can you go and tell somebody, `Hey, this can be better.' Vince is an amazing man because he listens. He has pulled me aside. We have argued. He has told me things. He's admitted things when he was wrong. I have more respect for Vince than I ever have.

``He has to make so many decisions. We couldn't do half the things we did then. In the original ECW, we did things that were illegal. Sandman's music, my music, that's illegal. What we did. Fighting in the audience. Fans could just sue you. Fans are suing even if you're not there.''

A native New Yorker, Dreamer was trained by WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz. He made his debut in 1989, working the indie circuit in the Northeast. In 1993, he joined Eastern Championship Wrestling which quickly became Extreme Championship Wrestling, based in Philadelphia.

''I still think there's a lot more fight and interest in Tommy Dreamer,'' he said. ``Hopefully, Vince can see that.

``I love being creative. I was beyond hands-on in the original ECW. When we had the 2-05 pay-per-view, I wrote that whole thing, and Vince McMahon said I want it to be different, and he got different. It did amazing buy rates, the DVDs. Vince has to go with his heart and his gut, and he's a very successful businessman.''

Dreamer, standing 6-2 and weighing 255, has experience as a wrestler, booker, office associate, trainer and color commentator. He is also a family man.

'Would I like to be behind the scenes now? I love doing any task given to me. I am very, very creative. I love writing stories. I'm an artist, mentally. You can not ask me to paint a picture like, `Hey Dreamer, go paint me the Mona Lisa' and then last minute go put sunglasses on the Mona Lisa because that's not the Mona Lisa. It has to be my vision, and you got to trust me, and if you don't like my vision, then fire me.

``That's something for maybe down the line. I still love being in that ring. I love seeing the progression of ECW, and I'm on an amazing, amazing ride. I've been wrestling since I'm 19. I'm 37, and this is my second WrestleMania. Last year it was awesome. I was there with my friends, my family, and I'm here again this year, and I'm riding this as long as I can, until my body totally says no more.''

Through his 18-year career, Dreamer broke his neck and back but shows no signs of any physical drawbacks in the ring.

''I'm glad I don't have a lot of muscle,'' he said, ``and as long as my %#@ continues to get bigger, I think I should be fine.''

Dreamer and his wife, Trisa Hayes, better know as ECW's Beulah McGillicutty, have twin daughters, Kimberly and Briana, who have appeared on the hit cable TV series The Sopranos.

• MMA and pro wrestling matches on the same show

``I used to Muay Thai box. I've been in a lot of real fights. I almost was in a real fight with Floyd Mayweather's posse. Would I see them on the same show? I think they are two totally different genres. I don't know if those guys would want to compete. We have some legitimate bad *^$#@ in our company. If you're an MMA guy, and you get your butt beat by a professional wrestler, I don't know how they would react.

``We have a boxer on our show. It's interesting to see how it translates. Shelton Benjamin is an amazing, amazing amateur wrestler. We have some guys who can go. To me I don't know the whole thing about credibility. There are some die-hard MMA fans who may feel like they're losing credibility and may tune off. It's all entertainment to me. I like it. I don't watch it all the time. I will watch any wrestling program over boxing, over anything.

``Ken Shamrock was here [WWE]. He's an amazing UFC guy. His wrestling career was kind of ahh, but he's made it in other genres. If guys want to fight, it's a &^%$ of a way to earn a living just like ours.''

• TNA, Ring of Honor on WWE's website

``That's good business. WWE talks about wrestling news from other groups and companies other than WWE on its website. People will go to WWE's website as opposed to going to a website that's not that credible.''

• TNA's impact

'I know a lot of guys root for TNA just because they're the underdog like ECW used to be. You need more places for guys to wrestle. I don't think no one will ever takedown WWE for the simple fact of `why even bother.' There's how many baseball teams? How many football teams?

'Again, it's huge business. Me coming from the original ECW and trying to compete. I remember last year when we were doing WrestleMania, and we had a three-bus police escort from our hotel to downtown Detroit. They closed every highway. I sat back and turned to my wife, and I was like, `ECW could never have made this. Look at this. They're closing a highway for us just to get to a show.' That's a testament to how hard the guys work. There's so many office people who don't get enough credit. This is a huge, huge publicly traded, multi-conglomerate company, and when WWE is behind something, they go full-throttle.

``WWE bought out the Marriott Hotel [in Orlando for WrestleMania Weekend]. There's only us there. When the doors close, there's a life-size poster of Big Show and a life-size of Floyd Mayweather, and it's us in the hotel. I was like, `Wow, that is awesome.'

• Super Bowl of wrestling

``WrestleMania has become as big as the Super Bowl. If you even think about the Hall of Fame, I think our largest Hall of Fame ticket sales was 2,000. The first one that we did was 500 people, and now we've sold out the Amway Arena. We have a sellout on Saturday [Hall of Fame], a sellout on Sunday [WrestleMania], a sellout on Monday [Raw] and a sellout on Tuesday [SmackDown!/WWE's ECW]. Then, we go overseas for 15 days, and every show is soldout.

``We are an amazing touring company. The fact that wrestling fans still want to pay to see all these guys go. I always will say without the wrestlers, the talent is what fuels the company, but without the fans, they pay my salary, and that's why I go out there, and I bust my &^% every single night because they pay my salary. They put food on my table. They send my kids to school, and I live a comfortable life, and that's why I do what I do.''

• Wife return?

``No. She came back in the 2005 pay-per-view, and then Edge speared her in the 2006. She says she's getting old. She's feeling it way too long afterward. She hurt her ankle in the last one, and she's happy being a mom, and she's a great mom.''

• WWE inducting old school wrestling talent into the WWE Hall of Fame

``That's smart business. You're incorporating your older fans with your new fan base. We were in Biloxi, Mississippi, and they showed the video of Eddie Graham. You had little kids cheering. They didn't know who Eddie Graham was, but they understand this is nostalgia.

'With the Internet, with WWE being more entertainment, more mainstream, you're seeing fans becoming more knowledgeable, and they're like these are the predecessors that helped. Back in the day, it was WWE, and they didn't acknowledge anybody else. Now, Vince is like, `Hey, there was other things,' and that's commendable again as a businessman.''

Arrow Rock imposter pleads guilty

A MAN who posed as Hollywood action hero The Rock to con Premiership football clubs out of tickets and merchandise has admitted fraud.
Wayne Scott appeared at York Crown Court yesterday to plead guilty to three fraud offences last summer, including twice posing as the wrestler turned movie star.

Scott, 35, formerly of Eastborough, Scarborough, and now of Highfield Road, Doncaster, admitted falsely claiming to be "Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock" when he contacted Everton Football Club in an attempt to obtain tickets between July 1 and August 1 last year.

He admitted again posing as the actor on July 26 in an attempt to secure gifts and memorabilia from a member of staff employed by Manchester United Football Club, and also pleaded guilty to lying to BT to obtain telephone services between June 1 and July 31 in the name of Nigel Usher.

Judge Peter Hunt was told Scott, who also goes by the name Kane Van Basten, is receiving outpatient treatment from a psychiatric hospital in Doncaster. He adjourned the case until June 9 for pre-sentence and psychiatric reports.

The judge granted Scott bail on condition of residence at his Doncaster home and a further condition not to contact charitable organisations. He was told all sentencing options remained open.

After finding fame through wrestling, The Rock, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson, embarked on a successful acting career.
