| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This Friday. Fixtures? Possible anticipated matchups? What teams would you want to draw? I want atleast one english tie, preferably Arsenal-Manchester. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but it's probably in UEFA's best interst to not have the english teams knock each other out , so Manchester will probably get Schalke or Fener. As a cule if we do get an english team Manchester is probably the most "accesible", to be honest they didn't really impress me against Lyon, and they way Sir Alex draws the board based on an inferiority complex in Europe would be perfect for Barca, but without Messi who knows. Liverpool are probably the team that would give us more fits considering how effective they are at shutting down spaces and properly stifling the opposition in the midfield, plus Torres has always put a number on us. Schalke 04 - Barcelona Fenerbahce - Chelsea Well it seems my prayers have been answered 50/50. We get Schalke, probably the weakest team and a return leg at home. If we get passed them we'll play the winner of Roma/Manchester with the return leg at either Old Trafford or the Olimpico. ![]() |

As a casual observer Manchester/Arsenal would have been my choice for an english tie but I guess the contrast of philosophies isn't that bad. I'm crossing my fingers Lucas gets a start next to El Jefecito but Rafa probably doesn't trust him enuff yet. ![]() |

He's being groomed to become one of the best CM's in the future and with Mascherano being there to break-down the opposition, Lucas can release the ball for others to roam forwards and score. I'm sure Rafa will be patient with him, I mean look at Kewell, how many second chances was he given? HA! |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Trust me Lucas will turn into a world class player in the near future. But you have to give him time to get used to the game. He's over eager and making elementary mistakes I wouldn't readily associate with him, but give him enough games and those nerves will most likely evaporate. Besides his position is probably the hardest to learn, you can be a winger or a striker and not have much intelligence, but you can compensate with just "natural talent". Anchoring a midfield, not only requires talent but also being smart, having good instincts, anticipating the play, knowing how to build up the tempo etc. Lucas is a teenager in his first season with the club. It's not all too often that a CM has the confidence or respect in his first season to organise a midfield. Even his defensive positioning, while not his strongpoint, is respectable for his age, a that is something that players tend to take longer to naturally improve on with experience, which is why defensive players tend to blossom closer to their mid-20s, as opposed to attacking player who often do at a younger age. Riise is no Roberto Carlos but he's pretty resourceful. Rafa's mistake is thinking he's a winger and exposing him when he playsi in that position, which pretty much takes the element of surprise when he's overlaping runs from LB. His defensive positioning is sometimes questionable as he does get caught up at the back and doesn't read the game as well as Aurelio. Last edited by Captain Beefheart : 03-16-2008 at 06:39 PM. |

| LH/FH.Com 0ld Skool ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you seem to know a lot of about Lucas did you see him play @ different club other the Liverpool or is is cuz his from Brazil?? ;) Like i said above he might turn out to be great fos us but it does gett a little annoying when he makes so many errors. With riise i've had it with for many reasons all he wants to do is shoot yea he has a great left shot but most of the times he over does & he defence is shocking most times. I think if he plays this sunday Ronaldo will burn him. Yea your right Aurelio is better defending but iahven't seen much of him going forward & LOL he suppose to be great on the dead ball tho i haven't seen it yet. Again with Harry Kewell he might not be on speaking terms with Rafa but in my eyes his still a better Squad player on the wings then Jermaine Pennant,Andriy Voronin |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've seen enuff of him with Gremio and a few matches with Liverpool to understand he's still an unfinished product. But at the same times there are little glimpses, details that leave me to believe he can become world class. To take his game to the next level, he needs to improve his movement off the ball for sure, and knowing how to work with "tight spaces". What I would like to see is for him to develop the "retainer" side of his game, so that he can adjust where he would sit on the spectrum depending on the situation in a game. This may be too ambitious for him, but given his skill in the playmaker position, and having the best "retainer" in the league to learn from(Mascherano), I think he could do it As for details: Riise is a headless chicken most of the time, most of his "runs" don't have any conviction or purpose, if you're Roberto Carlos you can get away with it, just on talent alone but gingerman isn't Roberto so yeah. Kewell is a mid-table team kind of player. At his age that's probably the best he can aspire to be. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart : 03-17-2008 at 12:12 AM. |
