Default NBA Trades: It's shooooow time!

First mid-season splash, Gasol to the Lakers for Kwane and picks.

Lakers went from being a first round and out playoff pretender team to a contender in my eyes. Moves like this are what wins titles...you have to put caution to the wind at least once when building a team. And they're a young team, they've got 3-4 shots at the title. Kobe has no excuse now. This is his chance to shine. Not only did he get his one sidekick, he got two this year with this trade and the emergence of Bynum.

This pretty much forces Cuban's hand at trading for Jason Kidd, which should be happening somewhere around the deadline.

What a bad move for the Grizzles, why would you want Kwame Brown on your team. He is a big waste of time. I suprised he is still in the league but getting the draft picks was a good move.

They will be very late first round picks, so I'd say these were expendable picks. I do get Memphis thinking, Kwame is a expiring contract so they will get him off the books this year. But You'd think that if they were going to trade Gasol they'd at the very least get a young big with potential back in the trade. Now they have Critt to add to Conley, Lowry, Kinsey, and Navarro.

I think this move makes whoever comes out of the East all the more tougher to beat. The West playoffs are going to be ridiculous.

Remember some of the best players aren't always selected in the first round.

So Phoenix counters with the weirdest trade in the history of sports, Marion for Shaq? Sure Marion is going to walk out in the off season and he's always played the Houdini role in the post season but the best you can do is Shaq?

The Suns really need to make adjustments and get some rebounders. I find it kind of funny that they expect him to play the defensive role. Are you kidding me? You just had Kurt Thomas and Shawn Marion and now you traded them for a 35 year old who has nothing left in the tank.

Yeah I don't agree with that trade at all. For one Shaq is too old and it seems like he is injured all the time. They could of got better for Marion and I'm sure he isn't to happy going to a team that can't seem to win a game

Marion has come up small in the playoffs the last three years, so they decided to take a chance and do something different without giving up their best two players. This has a high potential to backfire, but if Amare shines back in his old position of PF, I think losing Marion is a wash.

So offensively there is some merit to the trade (Shaq drawing doubles low block and kicking out to shooters). But it's the defensive downgrade that Kerr fails to fully understand. The formula against Shaq will be simple, pick and role him to death. Seriously, who here can possibly think a Nash/Shaq duo can defend against well run pick and rolls by Williams and Boozer, Terry/Devin and Dirk, Kobe and Bynum/Gasol, Parker/Manu and Duncan? Lambs to the slaughter.

The fact that Shaq can't stay on the floor physically (stamina) and because he's foul-prone at this stage of his career is a huge downer that no amount of motivation from being shipped to a new city/team will make up for.

Here are sum reaction from the players(following a double OT loss versus NO, probably the best game I've seen this season):
