Pudge is old and can't hit or throw out runners. Shetfield and Guillen are older and often injuried. And the young players we have given up are so good, esp Miller and jeez...I cannot believe we traded Maybin...I just cannot believe we traded Maybin. You will hear about him for years to come....so much ability..... And other than Verlander, we just lack pitching, both relievers and starters...Bonderman is just a win one lose one starter, as is Nate Robertson and Rodgers is old. Zumaya is injuried again and out until the halfway point of 2008, if he can recover from that surgery. And we resigned Todd Jones as our closer!!!!!! |

No rumors ahead of time, no grinding it out in the media, just BOOM, done deal! You should be thankfull to your ownership that not only wants to contend, but WIN. Your owner has already won with the Red Wings, he's built his business empire now he wants a world series. The Tigers are buying a chance at a World Series over the next 2 years vs a complete useless team for a few years after that window while they rebuild. The Marlins are trading respectability for the next 2 years for a chance to really be a competitive team 3 years from now. Cabrera gets such a bad rep, but he has been one of the best hitters in the last 3 years, and face it who wouldn't be let down playing for a franchise like the Marlins? Willis was a 22 game winner with a poor team just a year ago, he almost won the Cy Young as a 24 year old. Miller is a nice prospect, but he's a one trickpony for now. His secondary pitches are not ready tho. He has serious control issues with them on top of the problem that he doesn't disguize them well enough. From the Marlins point of view I don't think this was a terrible trade. If Miller developsand Maybin turns to be the centerfielder they have been looking for for 2 years. The sports radio shows have been saturated with news and viewpoints on the trade. Yea it's an o.k. trade....just hate giving up Maybin. He's not ready yet for the big time, but just watching him last Fall in his brief time in the big leagues, and I was super excited about seeing him play for us. You're right about the owner, Mike Illich, who rarely shirks from making major decisions. He is more than willing to pay out big bucks if he gets the right player....the Red Wings are proof of that. You should rename this thread as the MLB trade and rumors thread. That way we can discuss the goings on in baseball. Speaking of which, it looks like Boston has overtaken the Yanks in the Santana trade talks...combine him with Beckett and quite a one/ two punch for Boston. The Twin's ownership skinflint definitely hurt the Twins over the last few years. They had great pitching, some hitting (with Mauer and Morneau coming of age, Hunter still around, and ... well ... I guess Cuddyer, but he's not impressive really), good defense, and were a bat or two away from contending. Their inability to get through the playoffs during the heydey of this team is too bad, and obviously that run is over. This is exactly the kind of deal that Bill Stoneman ALSO failed to make these past several years when the Angels were just bursting at the seams with prospects; sell high. He had at different points Kotchman, McPherson, Wood, Weaver, Adenhart, Mathis, etc. who he could've turned in a deal like this and always failed to do so. PS: Even if the Sox get Santana, this is the trade of the offseason. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart : 12-05-2007 at 03:24 PM. |

The Tigers have 2 years with this team to make their run at the title, then they will be in need of rebuilding. Cleveland tho has a good, solid young team and will be around contending for a while. Don't rule out the Mets making a move on Santana, tho they have ruled out trading Reyes for him. I'm not too up on what the Mets have in their farm system. Mark my words on Maybin.....keep your eye on that guy and we will judge this deal in 2-3 years. Keep your eye on him and see if you grow to like him like I have. |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Twins are bluffing, they have basically no leverage if Santana makes it to spring training and they attempt to trade him at the July deadline. No one is going to offer quality prospecats(Hughes, Kennedy, Ellsburry) let alone a semi established player with lots of potential like Reyes unless they can sit down and offer him an extension. Boston seems like the front runner right now. I mean, they've spent a lot of their time the last few days with the Sox. We've heard they want to get this over with soon. I doubt they are jumping into brand-new negotiations now. It's more likely to be, "Look, we've got a very solid offer from Boston that we are inclined to take. We feel that if you offer Player X, Player Y, and Player Z that beats it. Are you interested? Mets don't really have anything to bring to the table. It's sad but that's the reality, Milledge was traded for peanuts, Fernando Martinez isn't a top prospect, Humber and Pelfrey bombed when they were counted on last year(tho it wasn't their fault to a degree, but whereas guy like Buscholz/Joba thrived, they failed) |
