Default Rugby fans

Any rugby fans here at Fanhost?

I know nothing about the sport, other than it's rough and there's no major leagues here in the U.S.

Oh and i know my nephew broke his collar bone playing it.

Anyone interested in contributing to a thread?

I think the Aussies have leagues and so too the Brits.

Hopefully there'll be enough interest and regular posters to keep this thread alive like out Amer. Football thread.

Post anything like league action, rules, news, links, etc.

**Heh**
I'm guessing the QFinal win?? when you don't have a forward pack you will lose the big games but overall how boring was the world cup..
What about it's showpiece it's final no tries just goals boringggggggggggggg
it's worst then watching an 0-0 draw :p

England's forwards were awesome, you don't have to feel bad about the way the Aussie pack collapsed but how can you say it was a boring tournament?! There were some amazing games, Wales verses Fiji was incredible and the day of those 2 quarter finals when the underdogs triumphed over the 2 favourites was one of the most outstanding days of sport in years.
The final, I expect it was a let down when you were expecting to see your team there but tries aren't the only exciting thing... the game's the thing.

I don't mind who makes the finals etc i just want to see attacking footy not the refs blowing for racking or bad scrums...
In my eyes there is to many rules rugby hence why the IRB wanna change them to bring back the fans & attacking football...

As for me saying it was a boring World Cup hehehe true there was 2/3 good games but more crappy games who really wants to see Australia smash Japan & Fiji & New Zealand smashing Portgual by almost 100points...
There way to many teams who are not up to it only put it to have more games = more money for the IRB...

o.k. guys and gals you've lost me here....so I'm assuming there more than one type of rugby, right?

Mo I'll check out that site this weekend, or next week if i go see my brother this weekend.

And I learn best about a sport when I have a league and team to follow and root for. Any suggestions for both an Aussie and Brit league and team?

I like rooting for underdogs and upstarts.

And I like teams that play exciting styles, even if they lose now and then.

Basically the same game game with some rule changes, Rugby Union has 15 a side, while Rugby League has 13. If I can generalize in England League is played in the north and is a working class sport.
Union is generally played in the south and midlands and is bit more middle/upper class game. Both are very tough though and involve copious amounts of beer!

The hardest part about following rugby here in the U.S. is an almost total lack of tv coverage. There are a couple of sports bars that I can ask them to put a tv on a game if I know espn is covering it.

I'll have to see if any games are broadcast on the web.

It's funny...I got interested in rugby at the same time I got interested in soccer. It was the last World Cup and this sports bar I go to was crammed with Brits and Aussies who work at Ford Motor and it was crazy. (I rooted for Brazil...in vain)

I got to know this Brit and one day he told the girl to put a tv on to rugby. The players were covered in grim, there was blood, there was rough play and I was hooked.

I need to find a team or two to follow and I'll learn the rules as I go.

The best club side in Europe is Leicester Tigers, (almost local to me) not particularly exciting though. The French and the Pacific Island countries are the more exciting nation teams, such as Samoa and Fiji, New Zealand being the greatest rugby playing nation, (Yes, I know South African's would dispute that!).
