Default A-Rod leaves NY

o.k. guys A-rod's a free agent...who gets him?

My bet is my Tigers will land him, moving him to shortstop. There's got to be a reason we resigned a useless Pudge, who happens to have the same agent as A-Rod...Scott Boras

You have a good point there Mo. The Yanks are sinking and need to replenish their talent.

If his reason is that he didn't know what was going on with Posada, Rivera and Pettitte, he's full of it. There is enough time before the deadline that progress could have been made on any of those fronts, yet he wouldn't wait for them. There was simply no reason to opt out early if he wanted the Yankees to make any move for him. His/Boras's decision to announce the opt-out during the last freakin' game of the World Series was utterly classless.

Now the question becomes can invest the FO invest money on building a better team?. Are the fans all for the Yankees having a down-year in 2008 if it means they hold onto their youngsters and then add some notable free agents like Santana to put them over the top. Santana is simply the best option of the FA crop next year. Sabathia is also a FA (not to mention K-Rod and Nathan) and guys like Peavy, Lackey, Penny etc. hit the market the year after.

As for Arod I wouldn't be surprised if ended up having postseason success in Anaheim because many great players can't handle the pressure of the vultures that make up the New York media that won't tolerate postseason duds.

Here's my bold prediction...though I'll admit to being confused by the several good decisions the Cubs made this past offseason.

ARod will sign the most ridiculous contract in history with the Cubs. Boras will somehow hoodwink the Cubs into signing a 1-year, $30 million contract.

With a perpetual player option as long as ARod is alive.

Well if my Tigers get A-Rod he'll have to play 3rd base, cause my Tigers picked up Renteria from the Braves to play shortstop.

His/Boras's decision to announce the opt-out during the last freakin' game of the World Series was utterly classless.

Yes i agree and I see that Boras has apologized to the Yankees for the way he did it.

I don't think Renteria has enuff "star power" to disuade Leyland from telling Arod to stay at third base. If the Tigers somehow land him they'll make sure to accomodate him in the best possible manner(playing his natural position would be a start).

But does ARod really want to play in the friendly confines of Comerica Park, especially making a push to break Barry Bonds HR record.

Say you were in Arod's spikes would you preffer to hit in Wrigley or Comerica. Zing!

I don't believe there's anything to this rumor, but WFAN was speculating the Mets signing and trading Reyes to Minnesota for Santana.

Everyone knows it's a constant battle for the back pages in NY and if the Mets somehow got the best player in the league away from their crosstown rival, and also took what everyone believes is their top FA prize next year, it'd be a major coup for the Mets. The Yankees are in stabilizing mode right now, losing Torre, having A-Rod walk and seeing their hated rivals win the World Series. This would be a primo offseason for the Mets to make a major, major statement and take back the buzz in NY.

So true...all the sport talk show here are saying that. That why Rentaria will do well at Comerica.

it took Ordonez a season or two to stop swinging for the fences and just drive the ball into the gaps. Granderson does that so well. just look at all the triples he got this year.

Reyes killed my fantasy baseball team this year...

I don't know if I would trade an everyday player for a pitcher, no matter how good he is, even if it's Santana. Reyes would do well at Comerica btw.

If the Mets did get Santana and A-Rod, then they would be the favorites in the NL.

the Yanks are the team that needs to make many statements in the off season, esp if Rivera leaves. I predict that they will go animal signing free agents and doing trades.

Do the Yanks have anyone in the minors worth bringing up?

All I'm hearing is just speculation...my guess is he sits for a long while before signing for less than everyone is expecting.

I like him and he's good, but really worth the dollars he's asking?

For 5-8 million you can sign a 3rd baseman who'll knock in 100 runs. Should you pay 30 million for 150? Too much for one player.

If Arod wants to go to Boston and be given an easier time than JD Drew, a good starting point would be to take a sizable pay cut. Which goes against the Boras M.O., but say he takes a 6/120 deal from the Sox. He'd be the highest paid player on the team after Manny leaves, but maybe that's enough of a PR positive to get more fans on his side from day one.

I know this sounds counter-intuitive given the microscope of playing in Boston, combined with the Sox-MFY rivalry, but coming to the Red Sox is probably the best place for ARod to avoid undue playoff pressure.

It looks that way Mo....he's staying put and for a pretty good contract.

It must have dawned on A-Rod that other teams would not spend that kind of money on one player, tho he's a great one.

Funny thing about it is, even tho A-Rod did the deal himself, without his agent, that agent still gets his regular cut.
