Default Scotland vs. France

1-0!!! What a goal!! *lowers voice so that humans can actually hear her instead of just dogs* Brilliant match.

How's everyone elses teams getting on in the competition? Saw England won 3-0 against Russia and Italy beat the Ukraine 2-1.

Congrats to Scotland super win & a big chance to go through....
It was a great goal...
With England again good team performance & shows that the team plays better with StevieG in the middie & not on the left side to make room for overated fatty Lampard..
Gareth Barry has been awesome & should keep his spot even when fatty returns along side StevieG...

In my eyes England is playing better as a team without many of it's so-called stars...

England has only won against Israel/Russia at home, let's not get carried away with the praise. If Owen's re-birth is for real, Hensky turns out to be the perfect target man, Barry the complement for Gerrard, Richards on the right instead of Neville. The question is does McLaren go back to the usual suspects once they are fully healthy(Lampard, Rooney, Beckham, Carrick, Hargreaves), or does the logic persevere and he plays the "working men" that can get a result instead of the names.

As for Spain, same old, same old. Added to the pressure of not only having to play well for the crwod and getting results, it's the fact that the spanish basketball NT is playing the euro Championships(they're the defending WC) so the media has deffered their attention from the mediocrity we have been accostumed to under Aragones to the basketball team. So naturally the primmadonas of the team feel threaten by their sucess and have shelved themselves from the press and in turn from the fans.

Team wise there's really not much to talk about. Probably the worst defensive back I have seen, and Aragones insists of calling up the same players(Pernia, Marchena, Senna, Albiol). We lack a defensive midfielder who can balance the attack and free Silva/Joaquin on the wings. Apart from Brasil I don't think there's any team in the world with the creativity of guys like Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Arteta, but appart from flashes of brilliance they underachieve. Up front, with Torres sucess you'd expect him to gain some confidence, but the coach benchs him against Iceland and then starts him against the next game. Villa has been lost since last season, all the press and rumors have gotten to his head.

The biggest problem is probably there's no passion for the jersey, it's a very complex issue but that's the way I and many feel. You take a player like Gattusso and he's running like a madman for 120 minutes without touching the ball or really making much press/highlights, but he still goes out there, putting his body in the line, sacrificing himself for the team.

Of course it's an extreme case because there aren't many players in the world like Gennaro, but you get what i'm saying.

I don't know what's funnier, the bombastic commentary or Domenech's/Trezeguet's reaction afterwards.

Looking farther ahead to the WC, I think England finds itself in an interesting position, their "block" is around their mid 20's and by the time we get to South Africa they should be entering their primes and be consolidated as good players.

This isn't the case for other top NT's that are going through a "generational change", Brasil, Argentina most notably from South America, Holland, Portugal, Spain and France from Europe.

Gourcuff, Nasri. Remember those names.

Trezugeut due to his pre-goal lack of foresight

Sorry to hijack this, but I think the FIFA Women's World Cup has been underreported here. Did anybody watch the game Germany vs. Argentina, where the German women gave the Argentinians some opportunity to practise kick-offs (game ended 11:0 in favor of the German team)? Too bad they couldn't repeat that against England.

You can watch all the goals there. Apparently Blatter wasn't so thrilled about the champs of South America getting crushed so easily by Germany(in reality Brasil is the best from that region but they didn't send out their A team). Watching the replay it's quite apparent Argentina might as well play the gatorade cooler as a keeper and they would have faired just as badly.

PS: Marta's(Brasil) change of pace is really impressive.

Marta is the most amazing women's player I've seen, forget Mia Hamm and all the hype she created years ago. This women is TEH S!HIT:
