Default UEFA SuperCup + CL draw...

Milan vs. Sevilla this Friday, the CL draw is tommorow at noon(I will update as soon as I have the group fixtures)

It's kinda hard to get hyped for this match when you consider how trivial football is in light of Puerta's death. A prayer for his family, and his future child, that they can find comfort and solace in such a difficult time.

But the show most go on as someone said. Milan is going for the 5th SuperCup while Sevilla has won 5 of the last 6 trophies they've played(only losing La Liga last year).

There's no need to talk about Milan and their achievements in Europe. Sevilla has come out of nowhere and become a "powerhouse". They are a versatile team that can pretty much play any brand of football from an all attacking form with their backs incorporating themselves into a kamikazee like attack or they can turn into a cynical team that will wear you out via fouling.(with guys like Poulsen what can you expect)

Last years Supercup final:

Expect the unexpected...
I hope, that this time a German team will win the cup.
(Although I hoped that ManU would finally play against a German team, but no... that means, not on German TV again, only on Pay-TV, I guess. )
If not, then I hope that either the Reds or ManU will make it.

Kinda weird that Bayern Munich won't be there this time LOL. (But I dunnot like them anyway.)

Thankx for posting the groups, Mo!

Heads up! CL fixtures start tommorow. Much to my displeasure ESPN2 will again carry EPL ties starting with Porto/Liverpool and Lisboa/Manchester Wednesday and ESPN Deportes will focus on the spanish sides(Madrid/Bremen and Barcelona/Lyon Wednesday)

Porto/Liverpool: Garbage, a snoozer to be more precise. The Reds didn't even show up, and Porto's only threaten on set-pieces. The only positive Rafa can take away from this is scrapping a point on the road.

Real Madrid/Bremen: This isn't the Bremen of the last 3 years, only Diego + 10. Madrid looked good in spurts/flashes(last 15 minutes of the first half + around the 70th minute on). Guti/Sneijder didn't link that great altho Guti can half ass it for 80 minutes and then filter a great pass and it's over. Higuain was the MOTM especially in the first half playing as a winger and shiffting into an attacking midfielder at points, Marcelo was the other standout. RVN wasn't really on, but he scored the winner and ditched the first assist and Raul has looked better this season.

Milan/Benfica: Pirlo sentenced early with a magnificent free kick, Milan brought the hammer down early and created lots of chances down the wings. Kaka on the counter abilitates Pirlo who lobbies a perfect pass a Super Pippo volley. Game ova.

Watching the highlights of the other games. The german teams put up a stinker, Valencia got really lucky and the day couldn't pan out any better with Chelsea tying at home against sum team from Norway nobody's heard about.

Match Day 2:

Barcelona/Lyon. This would have been a dream match 2 years ago. Lyon has lost too many key players and with that the illusion of actually being able to compete in Europe. For the first time since I can remember watching the, they resorted to playing a very defensive/counter attack tactical gam and after the first 20 minutes it was pretty obvious they were going to clog the middle and wait for Barca to bring it to them. Frank smartly pushed the lines forward and covered all the small spaces with Zambrotta/Abidal very alert and picking their attacking spots.

Not only is Ronaldinho not the best player in the world, but frankly he's not even the best player in the team. Messi once again created all the danger. If it wasn't for the erratic first touch on a couple of plays, and Clerc saving the potential second goal, he would had a perfect game. Henry looks horrible out there, altho he had a couple of nice plays and the gimme goal at the end. Deco was very servicable, Xavi was "meh" except for abilitating Messi on a great pass in the second half. Toure is the backbone it'd be great if he adventured himself and went forward to join the attack.

Similar to Manchester from what I've seen from them, Barcelona seems to have gone into a lazy mode where everyone expects the ball at their feet and nobody looks for space(off the ball). When another team puts a bus in the back it's pretty much impossible to break them by trying to go one on one.

Sporting/Manchester: Utd looked really ordinary. So many new faces and options, and then injuries and suspensions to all the people who would have made the transition smoothest. It's sort of baffling how you can add Nani, Anderson, and Tevez to a squad and only lose Smith, Solskjaer, Heinze and suddenly you lose all end product.

Arsenal/Sevilla: The score is a bit deceiving unless you watch the game(both teams created lots of danger, Arsenal just converted on their chances.. Probably the most entertaining game of the fixture. Cesc is now deserving of all the press he got 2 seasons ago. First goal was very "Lampardesque" and the defense put themselves in a hole covering the second goal off a the set piece.

Jose Mourinho Sacked

Chelsea have sensationally parted company with manager Jose Mourinho.

The stunning news was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday following talks with leading Stamford Bridge officials.

Mourinho was called to an emergency meeting late on Wednesday night with chief executive Peter Kenyon, chairman Bruce Buck and director Eugene Tenenbaum, Roman Abramovich's key aide.

The self-styled 'Special One' had earlier joined the Chelsea first team at a club DVD launch in Fulham and is understood to have been very emotional when he later texted senior players with the news.

Chelsea released a statement on their website at 1.45am on Thursday that read: "Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have agreed to part company today (Thursday) by mutual consent."

The former Porto boss won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups in just over three years at the club but his relationship with billionaire owner Abramovich became strained earlier this year and his departure comes just 24 hours after the club outlined their plans to win the UEFA Champions League - something Mourinho failed to do with the Blues.

The final straw appeared to be Tuesday's disappointing 1-1 draw with Rosenburg, watched by less than 25,000 fans.

Chelsea's first game without him is against champions Manchester United at Old Trafford live on Sky Sports on Sunday.

Im suprised its took this long for him to go, There's been a power struggle at chelsea for around 12 months there was only going only one winner Abramovich.

Mourinho will get his due, 44 years old and a resume 90% of coaches in the world would envy.(UEFA Cup, Champions League, 2 premiership's, FA Cup, Carling Cup)

Chelsea and Abramovich knew what they were getting with Mourinho-someone who doesn't have to work with big names to get results demonstrated clearly with his success at Porto. (Deco became a big name after he moved on.) It all comes down to results and it's insane for an owner to thrust two players on a coach after guiding that team to two wins in the league and two semi-final berths in the CL, just to play 'more attractive football'. And buying Ballack and Shevchenko with the intention of playing more attractive football'? A German and a Ukrainian? Those two countries are hardly exponents of the beautiful game. I'm sorry, but buy a Brazilian or an Argentine if you want a spectacle. Ballack is a player in the same mold as Lampard and Shevchenko was probably bought only to pressure Drogba and it worked. Sheva can obviously still play, as evidenced by his play for the Ukraine. But the system Chelsea has been playing is to the detriment of attacking players.

The problem with Chelsea has always been their lack of width. All of their players play up the middle. If you take a look at their first title they had guys like Robben, Duff, Cole and their whole team phiosophy was to pressue the midfield and then go for it through the wings.

I'm not a Chelsea fan so I really can only comment as an "outsider", but it would seem that Roman wanted more control over the team and Mourinho on the the other hand didn't want to be second guessed when it came to personel decisions. It was Jose who wanted Drogba to stay when 9 out of every 10 chelsea fan you'd ask 3 years ago wanted him out of Stamford Beach. Also under his guidance Essien become the player he is today. So while he could be critisized on many fronts, he's one of the main reasons Chelsea elevated themselves to the level they were at, till the season started and Roman brought the israeli and started messing with his own toy.

And i'm not counting Chelsea out just yet, unless they actually are stupid enuff to pay for Ronaldinho's transfer fee. Then I would just laugh and start counting the possibilities of spending that moneny(Kaka + De Rossi sounds nice, maybe a bit to far fetched). With every game and month that passes it would seem clear to me and anyone actually paying attention that Ronaldinho is not only falling out of favor with the team but most importantly with the fans. Barca is slowly grooming Messi to be the face of the future and save injuries he could actually turn out be really, really special.

PS: Sheva is probably a top 5 striker in the last decade, it really escapes me just how bad he's been failing at Chelsea, and i'm not buying the pace argument at all.

3 more points and a deserved victory for Barca. Lots of oddities in the game starting with Marquez getting hurt around the 15th minute and Puyol comming on and after scoring a goal injuring himself. Abidal aka THE BEST LEFTBACK IN THE WORLD changed to central back and Stuttgart bearly threaten. Iniesta as a defensive mid is a waste of his talents but with Yaya's absence someone had to play. Deco is one of the best box to box midfielders in the world in form, and it looks like he actually cares this year. Dinho can't beat anyone one on one, but had a couple of one-two's and a brilliant pass that Henry couldn't convert. Messi continues his hot streak(7 goals in his last 5 matches).

Mancheter/Roma: Roma deserved a tie, but they just didn't have any luck. Manchester hasn't played any game this season where they've looked convincing, scrapping 1-0's can only get you so far.

The midfielder depth is extraordinary but so far they really haven't gelled and connected with the forwards. Scholes playing so far back is a waste and Carrick is in down form so far this season.

Roma only pushed forward in the last 15 minutes and created danger but just couldn't convert.
