| Watched 1990 final highlights again on Eurosport today. The Argentinian's played from the on set for a penalty shootout....the ****? You must be all sorts of crazy to willingly play for a penalty shootout against the Germans of all teams. Of course the meltdown after the Germans dived their way to a penalty was hilarious. Last couple of Germany-Argentina matches have been great. Deutschland better ****ing win. |

| I know Argentina is favored but when one of the elite teams has hosted the cup they usually make it at least to the semis and usually win it. Italy '90 was really the only one where one of the traditional powers didn't win it at home- who beat Italy that year in the semis? Argentina. Home field advantage is a huge thing so it should be an interesting match. |

I'll share Harald Schmidt's opinion that he stated after being asked, how he imaged the effect on the mood of the people, if ther German team would win the world cup: After one month it would have toned down a little, then the government would pass two or three tax increases and we would all be in a bad temper as we've been before the world cup and as it's our custom.

| Watched it with some of my friends at one of those public viewing points in my home town which is one big party zone. My vocal chords are aching... and my ears... and my liver... ;-) This is soooooooooooooooooooooo much FUN!!! When Argentina took the lead I didn't really believe in a win for Germany anymore because Argentina seemed very clever. Besides, their quick, short passing looked better than our game - but we played with our *heart* while they didn't. They tried to sustain their lead like bookkeepers and were punished. :-P With David Odonkor and Tim Borowski there was more verve in our game than before. We're among the best 4 now, and everything's possible... Quote:
A world cup tournament takes place in Germany for the first time in 32 years and you try to spoil the celebration. I've just heard that Italy are leading underdogs Ukraine 1-0. Looks like a semi GER-ITA in Dortmund coming up on Tuesday...

Manos arriba, esto es un atraco. If I were german I'd feel sorry for myself right now. Argentina vs. 70,000 fans + 3 refs + Messi and Riquelme on the bench and you need penalties to go through?. Beckenbaur "The refs have been abysimal". Maybe he should be watching the tape from this game. Right around the 85th minute when Lahm pats the ref on the back.

| I think Riquelme's strange playing deflated Argentina. He really could have been the difference for themm but he was totally out of it. Lol. The ref deserved a pat on the back from Lahm - Adam Sandler fell pre-emptively and theatrically. ' Lehmann the hero. ![]() Gotta feel for Cambiasso. |

| It seemed like Argentina was controlling the game until Riquelme went out. Was he injured? Their #1 GK going out was huge too but their biggest mistake was trying to sit on a 1-0 lead. Lehmann picked the right way on each PK which forced the Argies to hit all 4 perfectly, which they couldn't do. Great job by Lehmann. Cambiasso was bawling after his miss, I felt bad for him. I hope his country doesn't blame him or any one player for this loss. I know how fanatical they can get about their futbol in South America. |
