| Unlucky Aussies, clearly no Dae Han Min Guk in terms of technical ability and it told. Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words That you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten |

| Honestly it would have been a travesty if the Italians lost that match, they were in total control. Then came the amazing red card for Materrazzi…couldn’t have happened to a nicer player though! Australia lacked the technical ability and pace to play it through the Italians, they just resorted to wide play and Bolton-esque tactics which the Italians will always be perfectly comfortable with. Pace is key to unlocking any Italian defence, historically they are simply unable to cope with fast movement and increased tempo. This is why Premiership sides generally beat Serie A opposition in Europe. The Aussies just had power and lacked the pace and creativity. The opportunities that Australia fashioned were few and far between, at no point in the match did you think the Italians looked in any real danger. Really disgusting way to eventually lose the match though. I’m not sure if it was a penalty, looked harsh. Commiserations to the Aussies, gave a great account of yourselves, a little bit dirty but whatever, see you guys again in South Africa 2010. You will be there. Looks like Italy guaranteed a Semi-Final spot, cos Switzerland and Ukraine are both total rubbish. |

| Mu nótahu ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's a meaninless statistic. Brazil has won 11 straight, Scolari hasn't lost a game with Portugal and before today Aragones hadn't lost one for Spain. Something has to give. Italia! Italia! Italia! Italia! But not that way. If being pessismist is the english way, what's the italian way? "We can play like crap, but at the end will scrape it. The gods are on our side". Truth be told they've shown a mental weakness that'd worried me if I were on their side. Australia didn't turn possession and dominance into legit attacking threats enough. The crosses were coming in from too deep making it easier for the azzuri to defend and stay back. Spreading wide more would have been a better plan(and when they tried, they found a hole, Buffon just sealed it). Italy had a few chances, but to me there is more to being the better side than having 40% of possession and sitting back. However, you don't need to dominate to win, and that's where Australia fell short. Gattusso Man of the Match. No questions asked. |
