Sorry mummy! And I agree to you. Was not the Brazil best soccer game. But we won and this is what interest for this moment. About you Samson ... Não! Croatia didn't play better than Brazil. Brazil was not in its better performance, but the Croatia also did not play well. And Brazil made a goal. That's enough. | |

Ok, now seriously, the biggest thinkg I took from the match which is a key if Brazil wants to go Hexa. The System has Failed. Times for sum changes. Like England, Brazil is facing the problem of having to allign and cater to their superstar's wishes, so you get Ronaldinho playing out of position and trying to distrube 50 yards away from the box with a static player like Ronaldo who doesn't make an effort if the ball is 5 feet away from him. Lethargic, lazy, uninterested. Even when he was overweight with Madrid, he was far more lively than he was today. He was just standing around. Will Parreira bench him? Unlikely.(More on this later) |

The coverage so far has been abysimal to say the least but it's expected considering they're pretty much new to soccer. I mean really when you're comparing Henry to Kobe Bryant and Ballack to Steve Nash. Come on! What you have to understand is that soccer, futbol whatever, is very different from basketball. You can have the best team on paper and overwhelm with talent but that doesn't mean you're going to win automatically.(try drawing a parallel to what's been hapenning to USA basketball since '02). The whole "Joga Bonito" campaign and the hype surrounding the Brazil team has put an aura of invincibility that simply isn't true. Anyone who's followed the sport for more than 2 years knows the cariocas haven't played "bonito" since 82(Zico era). In fact they've struggled mightly to take the last cup(a tie with Belgium with a dissallowed goal which would have given them the victory. A very tough match against Turkey in which they where outplayed but still won. Playing 1 man down against England and Ronaldinho comming through with a "miracle" free kick from almost 40 yards out with an angle that logic would dictate he was trying to cross. Brazil's width/strength comes from full-backs and from combination play between full-backs and mids (Roberto Carlos + Ze Roberto, Kaka + Cafu). If they are forced to sit back too much without pressuring the possesion just waiting for counter attacks then it’s going to be tough for them to advance. This is why Cicinho and Cris must play. 4-3-3 would be my ideal formation. ---------------Juninho-------------------- Kaka---------------------------Ronaldinho -----------Ronaldo/Adriano--------------- Ronaldo or Adriano as the lone striker. Robinho is to young, inexperienced and doesn't pose a threat.(he did made a beautiful cross for Adriano that #7 chipped wide). I think they will continue to be vulnerable on the flanks through a good counter attack. But having Gilberto Silva and Emerson in the back as support gives them more hope. My wish for Brazil in this world cup is that they actually play a team game, that involves "everyone" and nost just rely on the brilliance of an isolated play whether is Kaka with a 50 yard sprint, Roberto Carlos/Juninho with the 30 yard bombs, Ronaldinho with a flash in the pan pass. That type of play. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart : 06-14-2006 at 08:55 PM. |
