As expected, the Germany captain has sealed a lucrative Bosman switch to Stamford Bridge after deciding against renewing his contract with Bayern Munich. Ballack helped Bayern to another Double this season but was jeered by sections of the club's support during his farewell performance. The East German will add a touch of class to an already powerful Blues squad and is likely to be a major force in The Premiership. After previously being courted by Manchester United and Real Madrid, the 29-year-old decided to opt for a move to the English capital. "I'm very happy to be here and to sign the contract," he said on Sky Sports News. "The last two days were good. I met very friendly people and London is a nice city. "We had a great dinner in an Italian restaurant and a boy asked me for my autograph and was very respectful. "So there's been good impressions. "I asked some players about England and English football - Jurgen Klinsmann, Robert Huth, Jens Lehmann. "They told me good things about this country. "I am happy to be here." Ballack will wear the number 13 shirt next season that he favours, but the jersey is currently held by unsettled defender William Gallas, whose future in West London is in doubt with Milan keen to take the Frenchman to Italy. source from http://msnsport.skysports.com/list.a...tes+Blues+move Last edited by eliza'snumber1fan : 05-15-2006 at 10:57 AM. |

Ballack doesn't help Chelsea at all though IMO(atleast not to the extreme had he signed with a team like Inter who he was rumored to be targeted by). Barcelona exposed Chelsea as lacking that player who can magically create something out of nothing against really well organised defences; a player who you really need in the Champions League where good defensive teams do well. For example look at this year's 4 semi finalists; Barcelona have Ronaldino, Arsenal have Henry, Villareal have Riquelme and Milan have Kaka. Chelsea generally overwhelm sides with their strength and attacking pressure which Ballack is perfect for, but he doesn't fill their needs(Shevchenko does). The closest guy they've got is Robben. The EPL is already theirs for the next 3-4 years unless something dramatic happens I don't really see Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal reaching that level of play. |

| Gone for his payday, final jackpot contract of his career. They are all mercenaries at the West London Circus. If it weren't for Mourinho I would laugh at what would happen. Wage bill will be astronomical, Kenyon says he''ll try to get them to break even soon, that is some funny ****. Wage bill is doubling every year, well over £100m for this year. |
