| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | Now, everyone. . .both from the Right and from the Left! Please, abandon your partisanship for just a few second, and bring out your sense of fairness: Last Thursday and Friday, Rush Limbaugh was making fun of President Obama for being weak and not doing anything about the courageous US captain held as an hostage by the Somalie pirates. Monday, Limbaugh made fun of President Obama for wasting his time rolling eggs on the White House lawn while ignoring the crisis with the Somalie Pirates and leaving the hard work to the Navy. Tuesday, Limbaugh praised the Navy sharp shooters for saving the Captain, while President Obama "took credit" for it but "did nothing." TODAY, Limbaugh actually accused Obama of ordering the cold blooded shooting of 3 black teenagers - - yes sir, just 3 black kids who just wanted to give up, who wanted to go home because they were hungry! - - although these poor kids only wanted to go home to have a good meal! Can ANYONE who admits to being a Republican have enough sense of fairness left to be revolted by Limbaugh's dangerous stupidity and the hate he displays and spew everyday toward YOUR PRESIDENT? And yet, I bet there WILL be people in the Republican party who WILL find excuses for and agree with this psychopath!!! Please, tell me I'm wrong! _______________________________ “Work fascinates me.” I can look at it for hours! “ Star Trek Voyager DVD Star Trek Enterprise DVD Last edited by wade8069; 04-21-2009 at 12:01 AM.. |

Luckily obama was happy to kill three poor african kids who were probably desperate to make some money in order to buy medication for their starving parents who are dying of aids. Sometimes people have to be killed otherwise the world will stop working, shipping is more important than john lennon songs The point about obama is that he does good commercials (he's created a fantasy image like michael jackson). He is nice PR, so he'll be effective with developed countries like europe or japan. But why does that matter when all these countries are already your allies? - you'll never go to war with france, which is why they can afford to criticise you The danger is that obama follows his election fantasy, and makes hippy decisions on the basis of what was, in reality, merely television advertising. It's like the queen, who was once an ordinary woman, but after a while the fantasy of being a queen takes over the real person, and she becomes a slave to the fantasy - and she makes all her decisions thinking what would the queen do? Obama's made a few careless decisions, childish decisions which show a lack of reality: releasing cia torture memos , denouncing the previous adminstration in a speech in turkey, bowing to a saudi who runs a country where women are beheaded for adultery, and ending the f-22. Hopefully he'll improve As the philosopher from florence says, the first rule in foreign policy is that it's better to be feared than loved. Fear is the most reliable and effective emotion. America can try to be popular if you want but it's slightly embarrassing (imagine the romans or british empire doing this). Contrary to what we heard in the election campaign, creating fear is a far more responsible & sustainable foreign policy in the long term. Increase the nuclear arsenal. But making yourself popular, selling fantasies ect has nothing to do with acting in the national interest - where the best decisions are usually unpopular. Hopefully he'll improve as time goes on The 'torture' stuff shows the gap between politics and statecraft. The point is that bush/cheney were only idiots for talking about it . Torture is v ethical and occasionally useful, you just have to keep it a secret (people have prejudices). In releasing the memos, obama scores popularity points, improving his own image at the expense of national security. He's willing to emasculate the cia to make his predecessor look bad - this is the cia, where agents have died for the country. This is a poor decision Ok why is 'harsh interrogating' unethical? I'd rather be waterboarded than shot. And america is perfectly happy to shoot people (somali pirates). Somehow shooting people is ethically acceptable, while throwing someone against a cardboard wall is not. It's really ideology at its finest, like the ethical equivalent of diet coke or decaffeinated coffee, coffee without its unpleasant side-effects: "we kill people, but we don't hurt them". An example where the two come together with ridiculous results is the geneva convention, which prevents police in britain from shooting to maim (ie shooting someone in the leg). The end result is that they shoot to kill Last edited by Moshe..; 04-24-2009 at 10:18 AM.. |

In fact wasn't it enforcing the idea that these guys were martyrs? The whole idea of what is "fair" in war, and we are at war with terrorist organizations, is preposterous. The only thing the US has avowed not to do is to use nuclear weapons in a first strike mode. I won't comment on how poor of a choice Obama was for president of the US. |

It becomes like a roller-coaster. If you didn't know that roller coasters are harmless and never crash, then going on one would be the worst torture in the world. But when we know it's safe, then it can even become a masochistic pleasure, something people pay and queue up for (disney world: a sado-masochistic paradise). So another effect of the memos is that everyone learns how incompetent the cia are. If this were a top secret policy review, then that would be a good thing to know. But publishing the information around the world? If the cia are incompetent, then the most important thing is to not let this knowledge get out. Still the only really damaging thing obama's done so far is economic policy. I think it's a big mistake, but I wouldn't blame him for it (it's his economic advisers, I don't think it's ideological - he's just following professional advice). In the election obama surfed the same ideological wave as michael jackson. In the collective fantasy, jackson and obama are like secret twins. That doesn't mean that in real life obama is like jackson (let's hope not). Luckily there's some space between the collective-imaginary dimension of politics, and the actual people who unconsciously tap the dreams. If obama can dis-identify himself from the hitlerian ideology voters secretly projected onto him, then he might still turn out ok. People like the queen have a similar difficulty, except for her the projection is largely benign. The image at 3:50 is straight out of charlie chaplin, the great dictator Quote:
