| On This Day (June 25) - 1530 – The Augsburg Confession, the primary confession of faith of the Lutheran Church, was presented to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg.
- 1767 - Georg Philipp Telemann, German composer died. (b. 1681) (Telemann was a German Baroque music composer, born in Magdeburg. Self-taught in music, he studied law at the University of Leipzig. Often described as the most prolific composer in history (at least in terms of surviving oeuvre), he was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and a lifelong friend of George Frideric Handel. While in the present day Bach is generally thought of as the greater composer, Telemann was more widely renowned for his musical abilities during his lifetime.)
- 1876 – Black Hills War: United States Army Colonel George Armstrong Custer (pictured) was killed at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in present-day Big Horn County, Montana.

- 1903 - George Orwell (pen name of Eric Arthur Blair), British writer born. (d. 1950) (Eric Arthur Blair was an English journalist, political essayist and novelist who wrote under the pseudonym George Orwell. His writing is marked by concise descriptions of social conditions and events and a contempt for all types of authority. He is most famous for two novels critical of totalitarianism, Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm (a satire of Stalinism).

- 1996 – The Khobar Towers bombing in Khobar, Saudi Arabia left 19 American servicemen dead and 372 of many nationalities wounded.
- 1997 - Jacques-Yves Cousteau, French explorer died. (b. 1910) (Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, scientist, photographer and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water. He co-developed the aqua-lung, pioneered marine conservation and was a member of the Académie française.)

A Restless Flycatcher (Myiagra inquieta) in flight. This passerine bird is found in Australia and Papua New Guinea. It is about 20 cm (8 in) long, with a glossy dark blue crown, a grey back and white underparts. It is similar to the Willie Wagtail, though the lack of a black throat & white eyebrow are distinguishing features. Its main food is insects. |
