According to the November 2006 issue of National Geographic, the Czech Republic topped the world’s beer consumption in 2005. Other large consuming countries follow:

Czech Republic......160.5 liters/capita/year (26.4 gallons)

We have a major alcohol problem in this country. And it's rooted so deep into the culture, I have no idea about how to tackle it.

Wow. Australia has about a 10th of the population of the US, and yet we're still 2 rankings higher..... That's deeply sad.

im suprised the uk is that far down the list, as its got a major drinking problem and no one knows the answer how to solve it

Correct. Capita = a person so the units are liters per person per year (a liter is roughly a quart).
