Default Armed

Is anyone armed?

I carry a "utility" knife with me, always.
This is the exact one I carry:

Reason? I live in Los Angeles.

Have you ever needed to use it?

I have next to me on my dresser a smith & wesson 40 caliber hand gun with two ten round extra clips and is always loaded just in case I have to use self defense! I carry pepper spray with me when I'm out in public because California is not the safest place to live.

Would you need to ask the nice mugger to wait while you open it up or can you have it out of your pocket and open in one move?

Nice knife.

I don't think it's legal to carry something like that here. No need either.

I think pepper spray would be more effective, because by the time you get the knife out, me I carry the spray on my belt and have my hand ready to grab it. The spray has a range of eight feet. In any situation, you have to ready to fight for your life.

It's quite easy to open, if you look at the image the blade has this small piece attached to it, called a thumb-stud. It can also open with a flip of the wrist. Plus, I use my instinct to avoid situations but if I have no choice to put myself vulnerable (say I'm in a petrol station) I have it ready in my hand, concealed. It can be opened in 0.1 - 0.2 seconds.

I haven't been in situations to use it yet, but I have been mugged twice when I was younger. Having a gun pointed at your face twice by Crips gang members certainly doesn't discourage me to use it. But California law is quite specific on using it as a last resort.

I used to carry pepper spray but I ran out. Need to buy another one.

One hopes never to be in a situation where he/she needs to use deadly force, BM. But if my life is in danger, without hesitation I would.

I don't carry any weapons but I probably should have when I lived in New Orleans.

I can scream loud.

I saw the thumb stud. Quite a good little feature. None of my knives have that, I have to press against the blade, still quite easy to open.

This is a pretty stupid way to open a knife. It might look somewhat impressive but there's always the chance that it will slip from your hand and then you'll be unarmed and have pissed off your attacker by suggesting you are tough. Or even if it doesn't slip completely it might slip from the natural grip which you then have to fix up.

um...not that I've ever used a knife for defence. But I have had to use them as a tool at the top of ladders and the chance of falling off the ladder decreases significantly if one hand is holding on to something.

I don't carry them as much any more, but I used to regularly have two multi-purpose tools on my belt. One, the Leatherman Wave, has two easily accessible blades in it's closed position.

Strange, but I found when dressed all in black with two knife pouches on my belt that people wouldn't sit near me on the train.

If you have arms and hands I don't understand why you would need man made weapons.

They call me Danny Rand.

You can block a bullet with your hands? Or would you catch it in flight?

He'd piss in his pants, hoping the guy holding the gun would let him go.

You Canucks wouldn't survive a day in LA.

Well, I only know LA from the news... but I doubt a knife would be considered "armed" there, neither would it be an apropriate tool for self-defence

Well, the human body has untapped potential. If Bruce Lee had lived longer, he would be considered the world's first real super human. And remember in Rush Hour when Jackie Chan said his dad caught a bullet with his bare hands? It's possible.

Of course it's possible...if the bullet is thrown at you.

But Neo was also able to do it in and outside of the Matrix.
