| Thanks to Ophelia for the push to get something started. ![]() The family bloodline I was assigned to comes from a military and law enforcement, mainly the male side of the family. My father was in the military, so was his; my mum's father was in law enforcement, so guns were the norm. I was to enlist in the Marines March 1st of 2006 but my reservations on this Administration made me think twice. But guns have always fascinated me. I like war movies, doesn't matter how old the movie is. I've seen Black Hawk Down many-a-times [I'm sure some girls have also... talking about The Bunnies, of course], I even watch M*A*S*H when it airs at 1am. And I play war-based computer games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Battlefield [1942/DesertCombat/Vietnam/2042]. WWII was bittersweet. Dancing the night away with that girl you knew may be the last night you'll ever see here again; the final night before shipping off to Guadalcanal. I believe there's a gun range in San Diego, or somewhere in the deserts of California where you can fire .50 cal machine guns like these: ![]() So, any opinion on guns is open for discussion. Do you own any? Never fired a gun? Do you want to? The lines are open. Last edited by Avis Phlox : 07-22-2007 at 01:08 PM. |

I've seen every single episode 50 times. Even though I am not a dude, I will contribute. I have never owned a gun, and don't want to. However, I would love to learn how to shoot, go to a firing range and blast away. Seems theraputic. Then again, I could just try Yoga. |

| Banned by Stuper Mods ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In the UK they banned automatic weapons after one guy went nuts (can't remember his name) and killed a number of people then we had Dunblane and they got rid of all hand guns and pretty much any private gun ownership up to .22 calibre due to major pressure from the tabloids and IMO Britain being such a nanny state. I had to join the Army cadets to fire a weapon. Some crappy old WW2 bolt action rifle coverted to .22 and the current Assault rifle the British military use when I went on a camping trip. Great fun. I just wish the laws weren't as strict in the UK as they are. Guns R fun. |

I haven't had much to do with guns. Only ones I've ever fired have been prop guns or modified real guns for theatre use. We have very tight gun laws here's so they aren't something that people really encounter which I'm more than happy with. I don't think most people have a real need to own a gun. |

| Back in the late 80's to early 90's, crime was normal around here. The neighbours have kept guns for a long time, and pretty much everyone has taken part when it came to defending our homes and cars. So far, no one's been a victim of theft, etc. cause they fought back. Only a handful of thugs have been shot, nothing life-threatening, but they learned. Neighbours sent a clear message that whoever comes looking for trouble round here, will end up beaten or shot. Its been peaceful here since 1996. ![]() Last edited by Avis Phlox : 07-23-2007 at 05:03 AM. |

The homicide rates and crime rates in general, prison population levels, in the UK and Australia, which are both relatively gun free, are significantly lower % wise than in the US. Psychologically guns might be making people feel safer but the actual figures suggest it's not worse where guns aren't a way of life. |

The high gun ownership in Switzerland is part of their defence structure. The guns are issued by the army to military trained personnel for defence purposes. That's very different thinking from a way of life or a "right". |

| Kiss My Pom Poms ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had a go on the firing range at the police HQ I used to work at. Fired a Glock and semi automatic of some description with a laser sight. I have to say I was scared shitless as I picked them up but as soon as I pulled that trigger it was the biggest rush of adrenaline I have ever experienced :/ Last edited by Keri : 07-24-2007 at 12:26 PM. |
