About the same size as the MDX, the ZDX features a swoopy coupe-like roofline rear door handles concealed in the window pillar, similar to the European-market Honda Civic (Acura is a division of Honda). Acura hasn't announced engine specs, but it will most likely be Acura's 3.7 liter V6. We do know the engine will drive all four wheels via a Acura's first six-speed automatic transmission.2010 BMW X6 M What's that you say? The 407 hp twin-turbo V8 in the X6 4.4i isn't enough for you? Then check out the upcoming 2010 M version that premiered in New York, which is powered by a 555 hp, 555 lb-ft version of that engine. BMW says the X6 M will run 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The 2010 X5 will get the same treatment.Ford Transit Connect Family One Concept Ford showed a family-friendly version of its upcoming Transit Connect freighter, complete with a built-in hand sanitizer dspenser, walkie-talkie recharging ports, and an in-dash computer with RFID tag capabilities that can tell you if you've home without all the stuff you need to take Timmy to his hockey game.GM-Segway PUMA General Motors teamed up with Segway -- the folks who make those two-wheeled self-balancing scooters -- to introduce a two-seat prototype called the PUMA, which stands for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility. (Note to America: It's time to get over our obsession with acronyms.) The electric-powered PUMA has a top speed of 35 MPH, a range of 35 miles, and the unique ability to make the Smart Fortwo seem like a space-hogging gas guzzler.2010 GMC Terrain GMC introduced the 2010 Terrain, their version of the new Chevrolet Equinox. This smart 5-seat SUV will offer a choice of 2.4 liter four-cylinder or 3.0 liter V6 engines, both with direct fuel injection and front or all wheel drive. The four-cylinder version gets an "ECO" mode and an active noise canceling system to alleviate the "boominess" that comes from running the engine at lower speeds.2010 GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid GMC announced that the two-mode hybrid system will be offered on the high-lux Denali version of its full-size Yukon SUV.2010 Honda Element Honda showed a prototype Dog Friendly package for its Element CUV, complete with cargo-bay pet bed, second-row and cargo-bay pet restraints, second-row seat covers, rubber flooring with a toy-bone pattern, built-in water bowl, rear ventilation fan, and a cargo bay ramp for dogs who can't (or don't want to) jump in on their own. A production version of the Dog Friendly package will be available on the 2010 Element.Hyundai Nuvis Concept Hyundai's Nuvis concept shows the direction Hyundai plans to take with future small SUVs. With a new Tucson waiting in the wings and a small CUV based on the Elantra rumored to be in the works, we could see this show car's styling cues fairly soon.2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is based on the same platform as Mercedes' ML, which means this will be the first GC with a four-wheel independent suspension. Fear not, Jeep fans -- the new Grand Cherokee offers an optional adjustable air suspension that will lift the SUV an additional 6.6", giving a maximum ground clearance of 11.1" -- meaning it should be able to lift its skirts and glide over obstacles that would give a Wrangler pause. Other improvements include a new 280 hp 3.6 liver V6 (the venerable 5.7 HEMI V8 will be optional) and a significantly upgraded interior.2010 Kia Forte Koup Kia announced their plans to go head-to-head with cars like the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Scion tC by offering a two-door version of the Forte, the new compact that will replace the Spectra in 2010.2010 Land Rover LR4 Essentially an upgraded version of the current LR3, the Land Rover LR4 (known in other countries as the Discovery 4) gets a new 375 horsepower 5-liter V8 under the hood and revised cabin styling behind the doors. A revised suspension promises better on-road handling, while new electronic gizmos promise even better off-road performance (assuming it's even possible to improve on the LR3).2010 Range Rover The iconic Range Rover gets a new 375 hp 5-liter V8 -- the same one seen in 2010 model year Jaguars -- along with improved handling and slight tweaks to both the exterior and the interior.2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport The hot-rod Rover gets the same 375 horsepower 5-liter V8 found in the '10 Range Rover and Land Rover LR4 -- but it also offers a 510 horsepower supercharged version. Other changes include a new adaptive suspension system, bigger brakes, and less-complex interior controls.2010 Mazda CX-7 Mazda debuted the 2010 CX-7 at the Canadian Auto Show; New York marks its first public showing on US soil. The biggest news is a new base engine, a 161 horsepower version of the 2.5 liter four-cylinder found in the 2009 Mazda6 and 2010 Mazda3. The 244 horsepower 2.3 liter turbo engine will continue as an option. Other changes include tweaked styling, a stiffer body structure, and improvements in NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), with a particular emphasis on reducing wind noise.2010 Mazda CX-9 Mazda's big crossover gets its three-year facelift in the form of a bigger, happier grille, larger side mirrors, and other detail changes. The interior sees similar tweaks intended to give the CX-9 a more upscale look.2010 Mazdaspeed3 Here's the Mazda we've been waiting for! The Mazdaspeed3 is once again based on the 5-door Mazda3. The engine (a 263 horsepower 2.3 liter turbo) is unchanged from the previous Mazdaspeed3, but the manual transmission's gear ratios have been revised. Mazda promises improvements to suspension, steering and braking which should make the new car's handling superior to the outgoing 'Speed3.2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Mercedes showed the coupe version of the upcoming 2010 E-Class, which will be offered in V6 (E350) and V8 (E550) form.2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Also premiering in New York: The Godzilla version of the new-for-2010 E-Class, the E63 AMG. Horsepower is up to 518 -- same as the awesome SL63 AMG -- while fuel economy is improved over the outgoing 507 hp E63. Also like the SL63 7-speed automatic gets an electronically-controlled clutch in place of a torque converter. The bad news: The wagon version is gone.2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid Mercedes will finally introduce a car with the two-mode hybrid system it developed in conjunction with BMW, Chrysler and General Motors. The all-wheel-drive ML450 gets an Atikonson-cycle 3.5 liter V6 and two electric motors, for a combined output of 335 hp and 381 lb-ft of torque. EPA fuel economy figures (21 MPG city/24 highway) are significantly better than the ML350 (15/20), similar to the diesel-powered ML320 Bluetec (18/24), but well behind the 2010 Lexus RX400h (28/26).Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTEC America will be getting a diesel-powered E-Class, but it won't be this four-cylinder E250 shown at New York -- it will be the six-cylinder BlueTEC diesel found in other Mercedes products.2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT Prototype Mitsubishi plans to build a production version of the Outlander GT Prototype shown at New York. Behind its Lancer-inspired trapezoidal grille lurks a 3-liter V6 that drives all four wheels. The production Outlander GT will have a slightly higher ride height similar to the current Outlander.2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z Nissan showed the NISMO version of the 370Z, which features an engine tuned to 350 horsepower, specially-tuned suspension, and racy body kit, including a big honkin' wing on the back.2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster Nissan took the wraps off the soft-top convertible version of the 370Z, to be called the 370Z Roadster. |

Porsche says the new GT3 will go 0-60 in 4 seconds flat.2010 Saab 9-3X Saab revealed the 9-3X, their answer to cars like the Subaru Outback and the Audi Allroad Quattro. The 9-3X is based on the 9-3 SportCombi, and is powered by a 210 horsepower 2-liter turbo engine with Saab's XWD all-wheel-drive system.Scion iQ Concept The Scion iQ Concept is based on the Toyota iQ, currently sold in Europe and Japan (with much more conservative styling). Power comes from a 93 horsepower 1.3 liter engine. No official word on whether the Scion iQ will go into production, but it seems pretty likely.2010 Subaru Legacy Subaru took the wraps off the next-generation Legacy. Compared to the current Legacy, the new car is longer, taller and wider. Power choices include turbo and non-turbo versions of the 2.5 liter four-cylinder boxer engine and a new 3.6 liter H6 in place of last year's 3-liter engine. New and notable: The 170 hp non-turbo 2.5 will be available with a continuously-variable automatic transmission. The bad news: No Legacy wagon. The good news: There's always the Outback.2010 Subaru Outback Along with the new Legacy, Subaru showed the new Outback. Like the Legacy, the new Outback is significantly larger than the car it replaces. Unlike the Legacy, the Outback only gets two engine choices, a 170 hp 2.5 liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual or a continously-variable automatic or a 256 hp 3.6 liter horizontally-opposed six-cylinder with a 5-speed automatic.2010 Volkswagen Golf Remember VW's whole big thing about bringing back the Rabbit nameplate? Well, they're done with that. The new Golf will be called the Golf when it arrives in the US as a 2010 model. US-spec Golfs will get the familiar 170 horsepower 2.5 liter 5-cylinder engine, as well as the 2.0 liter "clean" diesel offered in the Jetta TDI.2010 Volkswagen GTI Along with the new Golf, Volkswagen showed the new GTI, which will be available in both 2- and 4-door form. No surprise under the hood: The GTI will be powered by the same 200 horsepower 2-liter turbo engine found in the current car. So??? Your choice is? ![]() |
