driving lessons

ive been on internet for local car driving schools,so far im struggling to find a school for less than £20 a hour, is this expensive compaired to other counties around the world?

Não, it isn't!
Here in Brazil, the law is the following one:

During a entire week, the pupil must to study in a drive school in a period of 4 hours per day. After this, the minimum of drive lessons demanded for the license is 15 lessons and each one cost 40 Reais per hour.

ps: 40 reais is more or less 23,50 dollars.

It's very expensive here in Brazil!

Personaly I dont see a point in driving school. An emplty parking lot and 10 minutes is all you need. I never did driving school, its very easy to drive.

Me and you, and of course Eric also, know how to drive! For us, to get a drive licence is so easy. Remember what Spin told us once at whatever forum??? He was reproved in the drive exam!
See? Some people has a little difficulty in driving cars.

Here its not a rule that you have to go to driving school and the test is a joke.

There isnt much to it though, gas and brake. I can see maybe a stick shift being more difficult to learn.

I went to driving school but just get the insurance discount. It saved me a lot of money. My problem is that I like to drive really fast.

Driving school cost me (actually my parents were so kind to pay) around 2000 DM - an average value. But hey, our colleges are cheaper than yours I think I had 23 hours - priced between 45 DM (normal hours) and 65 DM (highway, night). The rest was the for the tests and the theoretical lessons.

45 DM would be like nearly 30$, if the currency would still exist. Back than it would have been 25 dollars (? - just a guess), as the dollar lost more value in the last 7 years than the Euro.

Here it's more difficult than, I guess - about one third if of the tests fail.

Out driving test is you go to the DMV, and drive with a tester in the parking lot. You make a stop at a stop sign and park in a parking lot spot. You never leave the lot , there is no obstical couse, and it take a total of 10 minute.

ive never driven before, but i tend to pick up things easily once i get used to it,how many lessons would it take to pass my test? 20-25? or less..?

It's a regular amount here. However people who want to get a license when being in their 30s and 40s need more lessons in average than younger persons.

Here it's 45 to 60 minutes driving. The idea is to test as many different situations, while city traffic is tested the most (50% to 90% of the time - for the car license at least). Included in the time is at least one parking practise and stopping at a slope and starting again (stick shift). If you do a big mistake (take someone elses right of way or run over a yellow traffic light, you fail instantly. With the parking you might rank twice before finding the optimal position. With most testers two minor mistakes (let's say you stall the engine once and also forget to look over your shoulder once when changing lanes or turning) are enough to fail. However there can be exceptions from this depending on the overall impression of the testee and the mood of the tester. I was lucky to have a mild tester and still it was close. When he said I should look for an opportunity to go about, I didn't take the first opportunity that was possible. Also when taking over a cyclist I shortly exceeded the speed limit by 7 km/h.

^Wow, and you have to learn a stick. If all that where the case here, the wait for a license would be for years. At the DMV it takes hours to wait and a few weeks to get an appointment day. I went to the DMV to get my adress on my license changed, I was there from 7am to 7pm, they give you a ticket number to be called.

i wanna take driving lessons. i've never driven at all and my mom says our family car isnt in driving condition. so she's telling me to take some classes and then take the test. a person at some driving school says its $150 for some book and then another 200 bucks for the lessons. ugh...

Yea, you'll do fine. Just remember to have a bunch of doughnuts and some hot coffee or tea for the tester unless of course the tester is a fat ***** in which case you better resign yourself to taking the bus.

Just kidding. It been so long ago, I have no idea what they do now. I think they are pretty strict with the kids and there is a graded system.
