A boat orchid hybrid. Boat orchids comprise 52 evergreen species in the orchid family Orchidaceae. The genus name Cymbidium is derived from the Greek word kumbos, meaning 'hole' or 'cavity', which refers to the form of the base of the lip. In the horticultural trade, it is usually abbreviated Cym.
