Here's the gist of what's i'm trying to accomplish. Books clubs are great but not everyone has time to read them let alone share their opinion on them. So what better medium to exploit in this scenarios than graphic novels which are really accesible and easy to read. So each month i'll/anyone will pickone, and the one in charge of picking it needs to provide a digital copy of it(it's not that hard come on!) Anyone can join on at any month. Yada yada everyone is welcome. First intallment: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore. The Killing Joke Reader So read it, and come back with some thoughts on the following: -Use of color -the flashback sequences -the absurdity, eternal struggle between the Joker/Batman -The final joke at the end Last edited by Captain Beefheart; 09-08-2008 at 02:18 AM.. |

Lengthwise we're not looking for anything super epic. Keep it shorter than Watchmen. Also something accesible, don't want anyone to submit the first Archie comic they find on the rack at the 7-11. ![]() Last edited by Captain Beefheart; 09-08-2008 at 09:16 PM.. |

| I think people should go out and buy their comics instead of downloading them. And the first one they should buy is Runaways. The Brian Vaughan stuff with Adrian Alphona. He's a Torontonian, so I like him. Last edited by SilverSpoon; 09-08-2008 at 09:39 PM.. |

I don't know about Runaways, but the absolute essential books touchstone of comics in the last 30 years: Transmetropolitan, The Invisibles, Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, The Preacher. There are so many that I don't even feel like name dropping them. And really anything by the brits(Moore, Morrison, Ellis). Lately i've been on a Warren Ellis kick. Sum sci-fi lurve in the vein of all the great dystopian fictions. His writing just really hits me, the outlandish metaphors, the british humor, the hints of gonzo journalism. His work tends to fluctaute a lot in terms of how interesting it is, sometimes he's clearly just doing a book to pay for another book. |
