Default Book Club

Alright, time to start the Book Club. I myself have already bought "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" (Leo Tolstoy), so I'm voting for that one.

Last call, lets do this!

Well its not decided yet. Moshe suggested it, and Jo was keen too, so maybe.

I'll hook you up with some links when my computer isn't playing up.

And glad to hear we'll have you with us young Flute!

Good we're doing bookclub. I don't mind what we do, i've got all the books already. OK I nominate collector just because it's so so easy to read and very disturbing. I don't know if I'm going to be around next month because I've got a such huge dissertation to write. The death of ivan is really interesting though.

I think I'm more in the mood for The Collector, but either way I'm thrilled about it so whatever the group decides is fine by me. I love reading - Happy Happy, Joy JOy

okay march 1st sounds nice. This is the english person who wrote the collector. He was very 1960s style and hippy-ish http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/08/books/08fowles.html

I just read the start of both suggestions and both seem good.
So The Collector it is?

Went to Borders today. They had several of Fowles books on the shelf but not The Collector.

How long will be allowed to read the novel before we get together to discuss it?

I'm not sure. My thoughts were a month, maybe two. We could even do it by chapter. What are your ideas?

I would suggest a month to six weeks, longer than that and you take the chance to loose your audience.

yeah it is quite exciting. Internet boards can be exciting, maybe just because we're all reading in different countries, it's very international. Maybe we should just open a thread, and anyone can post anything they want in it as they read along, and it doesn't have to be clever! I think it's an easy book to read, the only thing is the first narrator is a proleterian english person, and he speaks in a slightly strange (and very very sinister) dialect of english, so you might not understand all the slang. Oh and we don't need a deadline, you can read at your own pace.

So I might be at a slight advantage?

For sure!

I got my copy - I had to beat this little old lady over the head with my umbrella to get the last copy.
